Has anyone used the big machines at petrol stations?

The big washers? I want to wash our floor rugs, but it’s a bitch to do by hand, I wondered if one of the big ones would do it, although they’re £8.

Yes, I have. I washed things too big for my own machine and it was fine. I also used the tumble dryer when on holiday as I couldn't get beach towels dry quickly enough (Irish weather). Cheaper than a laundrette (and more convenient at the time)

LoveFameTragedy · 07/03/2020 16:47

Yes, when we had a problem with our machine one day. It was great. Really
Convenient.

Coldhandscoldheart · 07/03/2020 17:11

Thank you. I guess I just sit in the car & try not to look shifty?

I've never heard of these- are they a new thing?

Elieza · 07/03/2020 17:33

They seem to be used a fair bit up my way by magazine-reading people waiting in their cars while their load is on.

ffswhatnext · 07/03/2020 17:36

I can take my rugs to the petrol station and get them washed?
Dry clothes?
Where? What else do they do?

ExpletiveDelighted · 07/03/2020 17:46

Washing machines in petrol stations, where?

LemonadePockets · 07/03/2020 17:49

The ones where I am send you a text when it’s done so I went and done my shopping and returned just before the time ran out. The machines are locked when they’re going, can’t be accessed so your stuff is safe

Ginfordinner · 07/03/2020 18:05

I have never heard of washing machines in petrol stations before. Where are they?

wowfudge · 07/03/2020 18:19

Neither had I - who knew?

I think they have a locations list somewhere, sometimes I find it, sometimes I don’t.

These look fab, there's one at morrisons here which would be so convenient when I need to get a duvet cleaned.

dementedpixie · 07/03/2020 18:27

They have them near where I am too. 2 washing machines - 9kg and 18kg plus 1 tumble dryer

oohnicevase · 07/03/2020 18:30

I used to own dry cleaners . Just be aware that there may be residue if someone has washed something muddy or really dirty if you put your duvet In after . I use to do a quick wash in between to clean the drum .

Coldhandscoldheart · 07/03/2020 18:41

that’s a good point @oohnicevase
I have other things to do tonight, but will feed back once I’ve used it if you like :)

I thought you meant use the car wash to wash your rugs and then when you said you assumed you would just sit in the car and try not to look shifty I had images of the rug on top of the car as you went through one of those conveyer belt wash machines Grin

Coldhandscoldheart · 07/03/2020 19:01

😂

Also cotton rugs come up really nicely but I'd add vanish .. proper wool rugs however do not . You can only really carpet cleaning them .

Coldhandscoldheart · 07/03/2020 19:26

I have no idea, I think these are polyprop.

Yeah, previous incarnation of this one I think.

oohnicevase · 07/03/2020 20:58

The problem is with rugs that they don't fold so you might not get them in the door of the machine plus they will end up being bent afterwards so never quite the same . Better to clean in situ with a carpet cleaner .

Littleshortcake · 07/03/2020 21:00

Yes I used them when our machine was broken. They were great. I also used them when I had a lot of washing after a holiday. It tells you how many mins left on the cycle so you can nip into the shop for a coffee and paper of whatever.
