replacing bath with japanese soaking tub

I think one of these might be the answer to my lack of space as I plan a new bathroom.

Essentially they are smaller and deeper than a bath. You sit more upright; I think it might be great for reading.

I went with dragged DH to a showroom today to have a look and was quite impressed. Does anyone have one and are you pleased with it?

I am in the same situation and would also like to know this. I spoke to a bathroom installer about the possibility and he called it a glorified shower tray which was offputting. I haven't seen it in a show room yet.

Ohh I'd be so interested to hear about people who own one!

We have a ridiculously large bathtub with whirlpool and I loathe it. Also, it's so long that you can lie down without sliding, because my feet can't reach the opposite side.

I want a deep, short-ish bath so my boobs and chest are submerged and cosy and I can read comfortably

Omi tub have loads of owner photos on insta, I’m thinking about it, tried one out in a holiday cottage recently and was impressed, as the OH is 6’4 he likes the depth.

There was a thread on here a while back and someone posted gorgeous photos of their bathroom. I've tried one out and am getting one installed in April when we get the bathroom done. You have to allow room for steps, but we are getting a carpenter to make some which double up as towel storage.

It was absolutely fantastic to be totally submerged and I can't wait to get the bathroom done.

Where was the showroom OP?

TalaxuArmiuna · 22/02/2020 14:47

are steps indispensable?

highlandcoo · 22/02/2020 18:55

In Morecambe Gemma. They're in the process of doing it up but there were plenty of different models to try out so very helpful. Have you already ordered yours? I can PM you the details if that's useful.

TalaxuArmiuna some models need a step and some don't depending on height .. and how agile you are I guess. You are stepping onto a slightly raised seat if that makes sense.

We don't have a lot of floor space so I'm not installing a step. I'm agile enough not to need one, my husband is tall and we have a small folding stool to use occasionally if anyone needs it.

Ah thanks - I knew of the Morecambe showroom but it's too far from me. I have already ordered mine, it's called the Bengoi and was the only one that fitted perfectly in the space. The photo attached is very similar to what I'm having, except with a slightly smaller sink and the toilet on the other side.

That's gorgeous! Great idea

JenWrenYorks · 29/09/2021 16:58

Jumping on this old thread 🙂.. are you happy with your Bengoi??? Am looking at having one. We’ll I was looking at the slightly deeper one. Is it deep enough?! Is it relaxing?! Undecided between a shaped one like that (essentialbathing.com) or a flat one (omnitub). Thank you!!

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 30/09/2021 20:21

@JenWrenYorks you have to @ the OP so they know you are wanting them to answer, like this @highlandcoo - and are you happy with your soaking tub?

Bookmarking love them from my time in Japan my friend has a book rest that she can prior her kindle or book up on and no chance of it falling in

DespairingHomeowner · 03/10/2021 19:28

I’ve used one a few times at a retreat - it was very comfortable, but I think they use a lot of water as deep (or this one may have been larger than usual). I agree would be good for reading
