Tumble Driers - vented or condenser?

Hi All,

so the most boring question of the evening goes to meSmile. I have a condenser drier and its useless so looking to change the machine. Just wondering if vented machines in general are thought to be better than condenser driers, or is there any difference in their performance? Thanks

You might want to have a look at how much fluff there is inside and empty it all out - it makes a huge difference to my condenser if it’s bunged up. 3 goes once before I realised!

I specifically wanted another vented to replace my 20 year old vented one. I didn't want to have to fill the hole in the wall for the vent, but I've always thought vented were better anyway. It took a while to find one, but I got a Bosch vented and I'm very happy with it. It dries very quickly.

I have a heat pump one and I can do a full load (8kg ish) in 40mins. It significantly quicker than my washing machine even when that is in time saver mode and the heat pump bit means if you need to do several loads back to back it is very energy efficient.
It’s a Bosch one.

I have a Beko condenser plumbed in to a drain and it's fantastic.

I’ve got a Siemens condenser. It’s great but with modern sensor machines you do need to put a bit of thought into keeping your pure cottons separate from your polycottons. I also needed to recalibrate the settings when I first got it: factory settings are sometimes a bit wimpy and need beefing up.

If a load is finished at bedtime I sometimes shove the hot water into the bath, or likewise the washing up bowl. When the boiler broke last year I used to (carefully) put the full water container in DC’s bed to warm it up.

The water that comes off mine isn't hot!

I wonder if it's worth getting yours serviced.

Our cheap vented one is bloody marvellous. Not that expensive to run (I think vented are cheaper to run as they don't have to do the extra work of condensing the water, plus there is less to go wrong so they tend to last longer). We use the half hour for a few items, or an hour for most runs. Occasionally the odd hour and a half.

I love my heat pump one. It may take a little longer but really not much. It is so much more economical and has settings for 'iron dry', cupboard dry' etc so nothing gets over dried and creased - I iron nothing now so it save time and money that way too. No heat or steam in the room either which it another big advantage to me.
