Carrier bag storage

So - how do you store carrier bags? Now we have the 10p ones or the bags for life, the typical storage bags/tubes/ etc don’t really work so I’ve hit them in a Sainsbury’s bag for for life - but they take up so much room.!

God - this is most boring question ever! How did my life come to this 😀😀

I've only got about 5 bags for life - store them folded in the side of the boot.
Don't buy 10p ones.

wohmum · 03/02/2020 22:26

I try but to buy the 10p ones but OH gets at least 1 a week

Do you just stuff thrm in, or smooth and fold? They will take up less room folded neatly.
Can you get your OH on board with reusing them?

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 03/02/2020 22:32

I have a stack of recycling bins (eg www.argos.co.uk/product/8423328 ) in a cupboard to hold different sorts.

wohmum · 03/02/2020 22:38

OH is getting there , and tries to reuse, but will just buy one if he’s not got one in the car.
Think I need to clear out the backlog - I know the local food bank take strong bags - and then keep them more visible and accessible

Put them all inside one and then hang on front door handle to remind me to put them back in the boot next time I go out to the car.

Soontobe60 · 03/02/2020 22:47

We don't buy carrier bags anymore. I just have proper shopping bags that live in my car boot. On the odd occasion when I forget to take it in the shop I just carry everything out balanced in my hands 🤣🤣

Walkacrossthesand · 03/02/2020 23:09

And this is why my next home will have a driveway level with the front door - at the moment it's 16 steps up to front door so I Can't. Be.Bothered to go back out to the the car with the empty carrier bags, and I have to remember to return them to car boot even if my next journey isn't a shopping one - because you never know when you'll need them next. .

We have some neatly folded and stored in a conveniently-sized basket right beside the coat rack in the hall. I usually have a bag full of them in the car boot, so when I forget to pick some up from the basket, then I still have some spares. Doesn't help me when I arrive at the supermarket and forget to get them out of the boot though.

By some miracle, we only have a max of 3 plastic bags floating around nowadays.
Here’s how to fold and they take no space at all:

Fold lengthways in half, then in half again (and again if extra wide bag John Lewis style) so you end up with a long strip about 7-10cm wide.

Starting at the bottom fold one corner over so the tip of the corner reaches the opposite side of the long strip so you have a triangle shape. Pick up the new lower corner and fold the triangle shape over again. And again and again until you reach the top and you can fold a bit of the top inside your triangle shape.

Saw it on YouTube this UK lovely mum with 3 boys can’t remember her name, blonde girl?

Of course there would be a perfectly clear explanation online, doh!
