Non toxic cleaning - make at home

I want to make my own disinfectant spray with vodka, water and a few drops of essential oil. Just wondering if anyone has any good recipes ? Also once this concoction is made up, does anyone know how long it lasts for ? Do I need to make a fresh batch each time I disinfect ?

alcohol is toxic.

why bother with this?

What do you want to disinfect?

I use two home made sprays for most bathroom cleaning. 1) Quick spray and wipe: diluted vinegar with tea tree or peppermint oil 2) To spray on, leave and then wash off soap scum etc: 50/50 vinegar/washing up liquid with few drops of essential oil.(plus scoop of soda crystals mixed with a little boiling water if needed).

@Cynderella mostly surfaces, floors, toys etc after my eldest has been ill. Usually I just clean the surfaces and floor with hot soapy water and let them air dry but after hand foot and mouth, I feel like certain toys need to be washed and then disinfected and would prefer to use something that is safe.

Umm, hot wash in dishwasher or washing machine? I wouldn't be worrying too much about non-porous materials if items had been washed in hot soapy water. Guess you could rinse plastics with boiling water.

@mencken because out of all the 'natural' things that can disinfect, the high concentration of alcohol makes it the most effective against bacteria, hence why it is a base for many cleaning substances and is used in a lot of hospital grade products. I kind of need the toxic element of it to kill the germs but want to avoid the other nasties like fragrance etc that the store bought products have.
