Blu tack

Anyone know how to get residual blu tack off walls? Previous owners stuck pictures up with it in nearly every room. We will redecorate eventually but just want to try and get some of the stubborn bits left on the walls.

Rub it with a fresh but of blu tac?

*bit

Tried but didn’t work. It is dried very hard on the walls. It is driving me insane. Every room has bits of it. It isn’t like one or two odd bits for posters- they used it for photos so random walls are covered with dots and it quite obvious. Always hated the stuff.

I think last time I had this issue (23 years ago) I softened some new blu tac by mixing fresh blu tac with a little neat alcohol and sticking a blob on the hard blob and leaving a day or two then removing the whole thing. But it might have been something else I used to soften.

I was hoping this would be about the little grease marks left behind, which we have all over our walls.

I don't know but I would maybe try a hairdryer or heat gun and wallpaper scraper or table knife if the alcohol thing doesn't work.

@HoHoHolly that is the next thing for me to work out. I love the house as it has so much potential and the bathroom and kitchen although not my taste can wait years to be done. It is just a shame the state they left the rooms in. The whole house was filthy but they also left food in the fridge and freezer, lightbulbs missing ( I think it is a legal requirement to leave working light with bulb in each room), etc. It is taking me ages to get the place clean and sorted to go on with as little one doesn’t nap for very long periods unless on me.

That's grim. You can only do what you can do, you'll get there.Might be worth getting someone in to clean the carpets maybe, or pay a youngster to wash down walls or whack some paint up?

Sugar soap should remove the stain.

Heat the old blu tac with a hairdryer then roll new blu tac over the old to lift it.

Will try the hairdryer trick in my son's room ...
