ecological nice smelling cleaning products?

I love cleaning products that smell nice, especially floral ones. Has anyone found a good ecological cleaning product for surfaces or floors? Longing for a time when good cleaning products like this would even come in refillable containers... How boring am I?!

Method almond wood floor cleaner

mencken · 17/01/2020 11:08

perfume is not essential and so is wasteful. Don't buy fragranced anything if you are 'eco'.

Geoffreythecat · 17/01/2020 11:13

I like Splosh. Refillable containers, unlike Method, with a product which come in concentrated form for you to make up with water www.splosh.com/

theneverendinglaundry · 17/01/2020 19:16

The Waitrose ecological range smells divine.

DustyDoorframes · 18/01/2020 19:26

@mencken to be fair most cleaning is not essential either...

mencken · 20/01/2020 11:35

this is true. Great, isn't it?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/01/2020 10:42

How far down the route of ecological do you want to go?

For me , they need to be No Animal Testing .
Then I look at huge sizes ( less packaging: volume ratio)
And I do like a nice smell.

Micro fibre cloth and water would use no products but you will have the microscopic fibres when you wash them.

I used a steamer in my guinea-pigs house because it cleaned/sterilised/no residue .

I've got those Lakeland white cloths and use Astonish paste on marks .
Method YlanYlang on bathroom

The method anti bac spray smells lovely but it doesn't actually clean my kitchen...

nocluewhattodoo · 21/01/2020 10:48

We use ecover lemongrass and ginger all purpose stuff, smells heavenly. You can get huge bottles too so saves packaging waste

helloswellow · 21/01/2020 10:50

I second splosh! Their watermelon kitchen cleaner smells divine. Their toilet cleaner is wonderful too.

BohoBunney · 21/01/2020 10:52

White Vinegar, Water. Lemon Juice and a few drops of Tea Tree Oil is all I use in the kitchen.

ReprehensibleRita · 21/01/2020 12:29

I don't think anything that comes in a single use plastic bottle eg Method could ever be described as ecological.

theneverendinglaundry · 21/01/2020 13:04

As far as I know, Method and Ecover do at least use recycled plastic for their bottles. Still have the problem of the spray part though I guess.

theneverendinglaundry · 21/01/2020 13:05

Oh, and the Wilko own brand eco range is very good too (also uses recycled plastic for their bottles).

Twenty2 · 21/01/2020 13:21

You also have to bear in mind that both Ecover and Method sold out to Johnson & Johnson, an American company which tests on animals.

I recommend cruelty-free and cheap Dri Pak products for cleaning. Liquid soda crystals is brilliant for greasy kitchen mess and available in many supermarkets and cheapy shops like Home Bargains. I like to use citric acid in the loo and for cleaning the bathroom, as I use proper soap mostly. Just don't go down the route of mixing them, as all you're doing is creating useless and relatively expensive salts.

Tinkletwat · 21/01/2020 13:27

SC Johnson is not the same company as Johnson & Johnson

ScribblyGum · 21/01/2020 13:28

Look at Splosh. Online company that, once you have purchased your first bottle, send out highly concentrated refills in the post which you dilute with water.
I’m a first time user and love the lavender washing liquid and conditioner. The almond flood cleaner works very well, only has a subtle scent though.

ScribblyGum · 21/01/2020 13:31

www.splosh.com/

Hand soap good too, oh and so is the surface cleaning spray. I’ve got the pink one.

Twenty2 · 21/01/2020 14:11

My mistake, it was SC Johnson, but they, too, test on animals.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/01/2020 15:42

Ecover and Method sold out

Oh , arse ! When did this happen? My Method bottles ( trio from Costco) have got the Leaping Bunny on them but I cannot remember when I bought them.

Twenty2 · 21/01/2020 16:34

Since 2017, @70isaLimitNotaTarget. They still claim to be cruelty-free, though.

Looks like several of us use Splosh. They have developed a really good range since they first set up and you can get starter packs which are good value.

ClientListQueen · 25/01/2020 00:38

I'm using these - I get the general cleaner and dilute into a spray bottle. Really impressed, I tried them on a whim and it's lasting ages should clean more
Currently on baby powder fragrance! There's loads to pick from

"We use ecover lemongrass and ginger all purpose stuff, smells heavenly"

This ^

Really rate it as a cleaner, especially floor cleaner, too.

Jarstastic · 29/01/2020 19:41

I like Kinn Living. Available at Waitrose and now I see it on Ocado too, exciting!
