I don’t have a dehumidifier - is opening windows good enough when drying clothes indoors?

I can’t afford to buy a new dehumidifier right now

I need to dry clothes indoors - can I just open window to prevent build up of humidity?

Loved my dehumidifier before - what did people do in olden times without them?

(In the season of wet winter)

You need to remove the damp air - do you have fan in toilet or kitchen?

It’s an old house, no fans

Yes, please open the window. When I empty out the water tank from the dehumidifier (or my tumble dryer when I use it) it makes me realise just how much water damp washing holds. You must open the window to allow the condensation to disperse otherwise you will get mould.

I've always dried washing indoors in a variety of houses and never had mould issues. We do always have a window open overnight so the house is ventilated, and generally we have the heating on at weekends when we have washing drying.

My late MIL would never open windows, and she always dried her washing on radiators. We often had to clean the mould off her walls.

We dry washing indoors during the winter, and haven't had any problems with mould/damp (nor do we use a dehumidifier). We do keep the house fairly warm though. One or two windows in the house are open, but not very far!

Clearly the key is ventilation, and you don't need very much. MIL never opened windows, and it showed.

I dry washing indoors all winter and have never had any damp at all. Do usually have that window open a crack though.

Depends of what the weather is outside. If it's more damp out then opening the windows won't help. Is your heating is on?
