to good to landfill furniture

Have some furniture: vintage style leather sofa, large oak dining table and another dining room table that I need rid of.
It's all good solid stuff that's far to good to go to landfill but would need a bit of tlc to get it looking good.
I've contact a couple of furniture disposal companies but they seem a bit vague on where it would go.
Not sure if any of the charities would take it as I said does need a bit of tlc.
Does anyone know of any good causes or charities that restore furniture in north london area or would collect further for further afield?

Try giveadogabone.org.uk/ in Waltham Cross?

Freecycle?

FlowerArranger · 09/01/2020 13:50

Charities won't take sofas if they don't have fire safety labels.

Trinity Hospice and British Heart Foundation take furniture that is in good nick.

One of the easiest ways of getting rid of usable furniture and the like is Freecycle.

Put it on Freecycle, I’ve got rid of loads of stuff that way

Soontobe60 · 09/01/2020 13:53

British Heart Foundation has just this morning taken some furniture from my mother in laws house. A sofa and riser chair, coffee table, washer and fridge freezer and set of drawers. None were in great nick but they still had them!
Just ring them up and they’ll send someone round to look.

I doubt a sofa would be reused if it has no fire safety labels.

Contact a local charity and just be honest. My local BHF asked me to email photos of a table, as I'd said it had a mark on it. They looked at the photos and said all good and collected a few days later.

BorneoBabe · 09/01/2020 14:15

Oh and if your local council has a bulky waste collection, they probably send any decent stuff to charities anyway.

OverthinkingThis · 09/01/2020 14:19

we've always done freecycle for this type of thing

ChicCroissant · 09/01/2020 14:20

BHF won't take unsaleable furniture, and as the OP is describing it as needing TLC then I doubt it's suitable.

fedupandlookingforchange · 09/01/2020 14:22

Freecycle and put as free on local Facebook selling pages.

Teddyreddy · 09/01/2020 14:22

Local Facebook selling sites have been good for this sort of thing - we've been able to get small amounts of money for all sorts of odd things. You could always then give any money you make to charity.

MikeUniformMike · 09/01/2020 16:46

Freecycle and Freegle.
Offer them separately not as a job lot.
Include a photo and dimensions if you can.

Sue Ryder or YMCA.

There are several FB pages for fans of mid century furniture, you could just try FB Marketplace,

Is there an Emmaus near you? They will take furniture needing a bit of work and do it up to sell or be used by their clients. They do need sofas to have fire labels though (probably on the base).

Also it might be good enough that if you take it to the tip, they will put it in the sales area and someone will buy it from there anyway.
