How hard is it to install a dishwasher?

BuddhaAtSea · 05/01/2020 23:18

Never done it, my exP installed mine last time.
I am buying a second hand one and I’ll have to do it myself.
Just how hard is it? I’ll be able to see how it’s installed when I uninstall the current one. What tools do I need?
Thank you!

Very easy.

I did it. It took a while as I had to redo the way I fed the tubes through the cupboards at the back but was ok. Top tip- a lot of dishwashers have feet that adjust- the back ones are controlled by one screw at the front. We couldn't work it out for the old one and basically sawed the feet off!!!

BuddhaAtSea · 06/01/2020 06:40

Thank you!

Do I need to drain the old one or anything like that?
I watched a YouTube on how to install it and saw the feet adjustment screw, but never in a million years would I have twigged it’s a front screw that controls the back.

If you live in a flat please get someone who knows what they are doing to do it. Our upstairs neighbour thought she'd do it herself, flooded my kitchen, ruined my washing machine and I had to have the electricity off for a week while the water in the ceiling by our fuse box dried out Angry

The plug socket for our dishwasher is above the kitchen counter so the plug needed removing and then rewiring into the cable- so ours had an added complication (but DH can wire plugs without blinking an eye- I would be a bit more hesitant doing on a major appliance as I haven't done it in years)

SisterAgatha · 06/01/2020 13:08

According to the argos installers (£25), it’s impossible. Several excuses despite a dishwasher already having been in place where the new one was going..,

BuddhaAtSea · 08/01/2020 21:17

Thank you all. I am slightly dreading it, but equally I’m up for a challenge. I’ll let you know how I get on and whether I called for back up :)

I managed ours fine. As long as one has already been installed before it’s quite easy. I just followed the same bits, waste into waste, water pipe onto the tap and put the plug in. Ours was a built in one too so had to put the cupboard door thingy on as well.

Murinae · 08/01/2020 21:26

Not sure about draining the old one. I paid £10 for the delivery guys to take the old one away as I didn’t want my car filling up with dishwasher water! I didn’t bother draining it.

BuddhaAtSea · 08/01/2020 21:30

@Murinae yes, I have one already installed. That’s what I am hoping too, that it’ll be straightforward.

When you detach the water supply and drain pipes there will be a bit of water but a big towel or a bowl will catch it.

It’s a very easy job.

BuddhaAtSea · 10/01/2020 15:28

Yay, I’ve done it. It really was easy and I’ve already tested it, it’s not leaking (touch wood).
It really was a piece of cake, why was I so worried? Not worried, but you know, apprehensive, it’s one of those jobs ‘the man of the house’ tends to do.
Bollocks to that, it’s not rocket science. Just tighten a couple of hoses and plug it in.

Thank you all very much :) Wine

I’m so glad you did it.

I connected my tumble dryer to the sink trap via a hole I drilled into the side of the cabinet.

Dh was 😲. When he eventually noticed about 6 weeks after I’d done it 😂

BuddhaAtSea · 10/01/2020 15:57

@Fluffycloudland77 😂 you grew up with brothers too?

Well done 👍 What did you do with the old one?

BuddhaAtSea · 11/01/2020 22:16

I sold it today. It was perfectly fine, I got £100 for it :)
