Getting ruthless with clothes!

Washing has been neglected over Christmas so am catching up on it today. There are piles of clothes everywhere! I want to get ruthless as some of the clothes have seen better days but I find it hard to get rid of anything (except dc’s clothes that are too small).
I don’t have alot of money to spend on clothes for me so don’t like to get rid of any of mine but some are just doing me no favours anymore, even if they are in ok condition.

Any tips for reducing the clothing overwhelm? Would you sell or charity shop? I fancy a fresh start, new year and all that, a good sort out and an easier way of managing all these clothes gojng forward. TIA

if there are any more expensive branded ones that you want to get rid of (so a more expensive coat from the likes of topshop, or a nice top from reiss) I would sell it on depop. other items I would donate to the charity shop. Usually, I go by the rule that if I haven't worn it in the last 6 months I probably won't wear it and so it can go. you can use the money that you gain from selling clothes to buy some more items x

I definitely get rid if not worn for 1 year for seasonal clothes or 6 months for year round clothes.

I found it useful to turn round hangars to see what you haven't worn. I got rid of lots of clothes but wear a wider range than I used to as I can see what I have!

I'm also stricter about only buying what I need and that keeps the volume down. I make exceptions for things I find difficult to find and may buy more than one at a time.

I’m trying to sort mine. I have work clothes, going out clothes, gardening clothes, around the house clothes and DIY/painting/crafty clothes. Unless they are threadbear I don’t tend to get rid of them. I need to be more ruthless.

I only buy what I need and wear what I like not what is on trend much to my sisters dislike. Lucky for them I don’t see them very often.

@sleepismysuperpower1 interesting - do you find Depop better than EBay? I’m also looking to sell some clothes so would be interested to know! I’ve never used Depop before.

When I’m deciding what to keep, I ask myself questions like this:

  1. Does it fit me?
  2. Do I feel good when I wear it?
  3. Do I realistically have the lifestyle where I will wear it regularly? (For me, as a SAHM, the call for fancy dresses and work wear is somewhat limited!)
  4. Does it go with other things in my wardrobe? (There’s no point keeping a top I love if it doesn’t go with any of my trousers/skirts)

@wondering7777 I tend to list items on both and then remove when they sell, but I get a higher response rate for clothes on depop as it seems to be mainly used for clothing x
