Those double drawer dishwashers - who's got one and are they good?

You know what I mean - there are two pull out drawers rather than one big door with pull out shelves so you can run a half load. Are they any good or do they just look cool but actually don't take that much stuff?

My brother has one, a Fisher and Paykel and he likes it. He often doesn't put things away, he just has a clean drawer and a dirty drawer. He doesn't think it would be good for a family though as it obviously takes half the load of a full-size dishwasher.

If you have a big enough kitchen you could do a family sized version by having two dishwashers side by side.

They're Fisher & Paykel, very environmentally friendly, looking great, fab idea to be able to put fill one and put on to wash while the other slowly fills up, BUT - they're from AUSTRALIA. Which means that when they break down, it costs a FORTUNE to repair. And flying them over here probably negates all the eco-positivity of their minimal water usage. I loved mine, but it died after three years and I went back to getting bog-standard Bosch from johnny lulus.

They're also ferociously expensive. Unless you have more money than space it would actually be cheaper to have 2 reasonably good quality dishwashers side-by-side than one F&P.

My OH works in the industry and we were given one by F&P to test, have to admit didnt really like it my Smeg was far superior and my OH wasnt that impressed by it either. I felt with having a family it was always on either one drawer or both everyday. Would recommend it if you did not have a family.

We off loaded it to one of OHs friends and now we have an Asko which is superb, its so quiet that i forget i have put it on.

bloody hell...have just written lengthy post twice of why they're fab and lost it so short answer is YES they're great get one!!!

i had a single drawer only and it held nearly as much as my current normal type dishwasher.

Left it behind when we moved and i was gutted as i loved it so much but i WILL be having one when we eventually do new kitchen.

If you want stainless steel type finsih go for the iridium finish as it doesnt mark. Also buy dishwash powder not tablets for it.

Just replaced one after 3 years absolutedly hated it endless endless problems-Only time an electrical appliance has caused me to cry. Common problem with motor flooding due to design and the control panel is tempermental. Do a google and see reviews from real users, they are not great. Have a lokk at www.epinions.com Also the waste tube got cut during one of the many repairs and the wait for a new one from NZ was 16 weeks!!My husband patched the tube with duct tape. The drawers will not hold everyday large items - my big dinner plates didn't fit .Definitely not worth the money in my opinion.Have a Siemens now- its much quieter, easy to load and cleans thing properly. Rubber gloves now in bin.

We have one which is nearly 3 years old and so far has been great. It does stop cleaning well if you don't clean it out about weekly but that only takes a few minutes to wipe out really - sometimes the filters get a bit gunky but is easy enough to clean. Only problem I couldn't solve was string got wrapped round part of it, but dh fixed it. We have two drawers stacked abouve each other. If we were putting in another kitchen I would have 2 drawers side by side. Only real complaints are the length of the cycle - ok if you are running overnight but can be a pain if you need lots in the day done and the fact it takes powder not tablets and sometimes this can be harder to find.

We loved the look of F&P one initially and thought it would be good if we only wanted to do a small load...but, having virtually decided we'd go for it, the bloke at MFI (decent of him really given the price) told us to look at the bottom..the bit where you'd usually have skirting, and you can't with this dishwasher cause it's a pull-out drawer essentially as opposed to opening from the the top like a pull down cupbd IYSWIM...it looked 'unfinished' because of it..and he said lots of people didn't clock that until after it'd been delivered and installed.

If you're serious, I'd advise checking it out so you're sure it looks okay

We have a skirting fitting on ours - done by the man who built the kitchen. It's not ideal as it does tend to come off if you drag the drawer, but then ours is solid oak and so quite heavy, something laminate would be lighter. You just need to fit a cupboard plinth to the base. It's not standard, but it's not that hard either.

Thanks for all the feedback. I spoke to our kitchen designer lady today about them and she didn't feel the look would go with the style kitchen we're having, so I guess the answer is no. But the do look lovely.

Next fantasy is a lacanche cooker and an amanda double fridge freezer. maybe in another life after i win the lottery...
