What’s your routine?

Specifically those with no cleaner, no little people at hone and not working FT.
I work one week day and one weekend day, one DC at school. And I don’t seem to be able to get into a decent routine. I have tons of time but things don’t seem to get done! Share your wisdom please?!

I fit it in when I can. Sometimes make a list and tick off through the week. If I do a job a day I feel at least I achieved something. 🤗

isseywith4vampirecats · 31/12/2019 21:14

I work mornings 2 days a week and all day 3 days a week but two of them overlap so I have two full days off work, on one of my full days off I clean the house from top to bottom, on the other days I do basics like washing up, keep the floors and worktops clean, make the bed before I go out or as soon as I get up just generally keep on top without killing myself

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 31/12/2019 21:16

I use The Organised Mum Method. It works well for me.

Notso · 31/12/2019 21:21

Second Team TOMM. I don't follow religiously but it helps me focus on what I should be doing.

MilaRos · 31/12/2019 21:31

I work two weekdays a week (20 hours in total) I spend the extra 3 weekdays catching up with washing, hoovering, dusting etc just give yourself a few chores a day that need to be done consistently to keep on top. Then add extras on when you have the time. For me washing up, sweeping, making beds and bathroom need to be done daily. Things like dusting, organising deep cleaning can be done intermittently when needed in the week.

HoHoHolly · 31/12/2019 21:53

I was just about to ask the same thing. I've just reduced my hours and let our cleaner go so I need to get organised.

At the moment my plan is to walk the school run, come home for a cuppa and then JFDSomething round the house from 9.45 til 10.30. 3 different rooms, 15 mins slots.

My CBT person told me to just decide to do one thing and give myself "permission" to stop after that. I find that a useful technique. If 15 mins looks too hard, tell yourself you'll just clean the loo and then you can stop.

I'm a bit worried about housework expanding to fit the time available. I don't want it to take over my life ... But right now we are a LONG way from that!!

DisorganisedOrganiser · 31/12/2019 22:01

Watching with interest. I have a similar amount of free time, spend all my time decluttering and cleaning. Rarely sit down.

House is still a mess and I get basically nothing done Sad. TOMM only seems to work if you do a bootcamp which seems to be weeks of complete insanity decluttering everything in sight. I know I can’t do this so don’t start it.

Chancey1982 · 31/12/2019 22:20

4 kids, work p/t. Hoover whole house daily, make beds, do one load of washing and hang up or tumbledry. Clean bathrooms and bleach loos. Clean kitchen and mop floor.
Once a wk clean windows, strip beds, put all washing away. Clean everywhere more in-depth. Try to clean car once every two wks at least.
Love not having to cut grass etc aswell at mo.

poppymatilda · 31/12/2019 22:25

Sounds weird but I'm convinced the more free time you have the less you get done. I'm freelance so my work fluctuates and I find when I have less work on I am less productive at home.
DH and I don't religiously half the household chores but flex up and down (his workload is non routine as well). And we hate different things - I'd rather hang washing and he'd rather cut the grass, so we don't make each other do the chore we hate!

HoHoHolly · 01/01/2020 12:11

poppymatilda it doesn't sound weird to me, I think you're spot on. I'm just not sure how to fix it. I'm a dreadful procrastinator.

checkingforballoons · 01/01/2020 19:19

Thanks all!
I agree, when I worked more hours I seemed to get the same amount done!
Has anyone done TOMM without the boot camp part? Because that’s also what puts me off starting it.

I'm planning to start team Tomm tomorrow without the boot camp. I'm just going to jump in on the day it is and do the 30mins. Like you I've put off doing it because of the boot camp bit, but 30 mins has got to be better than nothing at all. I'm guessing it'll take a good few weeks to get on track and be doing it 'properly' but I'm ok with that.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 01/01/2020 20:42

I did! I just figured something was better than nothing. I have slowly slowly used extra time to sort out the odd drawer drawer or space. Some areas are better than others but overall I feel it’s improved our home, routine and organisation in general.

It has a very active and helpful Facebook group (closes at the weekend so get your join requests in now) and a book and an app available if you want.

buckeejit · 02/01/2020 12:06

Is there an easy way to find a summary of Team TOMM? I need small wins & can't be bothered reading loads of stuff

HoHoHolly · 02/01/2020 12:57

I think there are some printables on her website. Hang on...

HoHoHolly · 02/01/2020 12:59

www.theorganisedmum.blog/free-printables/

Skip the first 2. The others summarise the basics pretty well

buckeejit · 02/01/2020 13:47

@HoHoHolly - thanks so much!
