Storage System for Playmobil and Lego

Aaargh, too much Lego and Playmobil!
Please tell me your storage system ideas! I want to keep the little sets apart, e.g. Lego Friends, Frozen Lego, Playmobil hospital accessories. Perhaps a system of stacking boxes or something? I hate the useless boxes they come in that don't do up properly.

Thanks in advance!

Ikea trofast

We divide them into "genres" and each one goes in a clear IKEA samla box. I cut out a logo from one of the boxes and stick it to the end and side of the box as a label (Lego Friends or whatever). We have a range of different sized boxes. Trofast is also great.

We use Samla Ikea boxes too. We use the shallow ones for Playmobil accessories and Lego. I try to ensure the Lego ones are never more than half full, so it’s easy to rummage around for a particular brick without them spilling out. Seems to work well at the moment.

Our playmobil is in see through boxes by gendre, so sets aren't individual, but we have a box for princess stuff, a box of Egypt stuff, a box for farm stuff etc. They are labelled with my trusty label maker, and live on the shelf next to any bog buildings/pyramids/whatever that they relate too.

We have Lego in the most shallow trofast drawers with various boxes inside, and it's divided by shape and type of pieces rather than by set.

Thanks all, those are great suggestions. I was a bit concerned about trofast due to toddler getting lego out of the trays but now realise they have lids!!

They do, but the lids just rest on top. They're nowhere near toddler proof. I'd keep Lego & playmobil out of their reach.

I keep the sets in resealable freezer bags, then all the bags live in a big plastic box.

However - they never get played with. So I’m looking for something more accessible.

Something like this www.theholdingcompany.co.uk/storage-drawers/acrylic-stackable-shoe-storage-drawers-small-clear.html would work I think but it’s quite pricey.

Thanks folks. Hmm Samla is looking like a good option if Trofast lids don't clip tightly...

We have a big tub full of jumbled up playmobil. Once I spent ages sorting through it, organising it all and putting each set in a container (bought loads of lidded boxes from wilko). It got jumbled up again within days. I just dont know what to do with it all!

RhymingRabbit3 · 31/12/2019 19:36

Trofast and then each set in a sealed bag or Tupperware

HoHoHolly · 31/12/2019 21:36

Erm, feel like I'm raining on your parade OP but the samla boxes don't have tight fitting lids either. Little bits just need to be kept out of reach of little ones. Can they go in your older one's room?

I have one of those multi coloured plastic drawer things and also a few sacks of Lego in stuffels. Stuffel is like a playmat with stiff edges and a draw string. Easy to scoop up and makes for easy play out on the floor.

Bookbandconfusion · 09/01/2020 20:33

@HoHoHolly, I'm very glad you mentioned it before I went and bought some, thanks!
@livingthegoodlife, will investigate stuffels, thanks!
