Are all cordless vacuums rubbish?

The cordless Dysons I've used haven't picked up well, have found them awkward to use and difficult to empty. The best vacuum I've used is an old DC04 which is pretty knackered but am considering getting it refurbished but for full strip down and replacement of missing parts etc cost may approach that of a refurbished V6 cordless. We have a dog and vacuum most days. DH would prefer cordless, I'm ambivalent and don't want to compromise performance for convenience.
What should we go for? (Don't mind a refurb)

We have a Black & Decker cordless. It cost just under £100 and it’s fine. It picks up dog hair, and it’s easy to empty. For the money, it’s great value. There’s no way I’d go back to a corded one now.

I love my Gtech air ram

I love my Dyson cordless - I’ve vacuumed so much more since buying it, as I find it so easy and quick to use. I still have my huge corded vacuum that I use for heavy duty jobs (like vacuuming out the shed!) but for day to day, the cordless is so easy.

Bosch Athlet- love it

Also, the best thing about the Dyson is watching all the dust and dirt you’ve sucked up accumulate in the clear drum. Seriously satisfying Grin

I love the GTech Air ram.

I've got the shark and it's great

My Dyson is good but I need to empty after every use and change the filters regularly- I ended up buying some so I wasn't waiting for it to dry. As long as I do this regularly it's fantastic.

I don't think it's a replacement for a proper vacuum at all.

I have a Dyson, on hard floors it is incredible for a cordless but it can not compete with Miele Cat and Dog on carpet.

The Miele was reviewed by pet owners on MN and also a chap on YouTube who reviews lots of different vacuum cleaners and hoovers up his dog hair. But as it is corded it is much heavier than the Dyson cordless but you might not have to use it every day. Check out the chap' channel for a look at all vacuum cleaners, but here is the Cat and Dog Miele hoovering up dog hair.

Another vote for the GTech!

ginyogarepeat · 25/12/2019 22:52

Couldn't ever replace my Miele, but my £50 black and decker cordless is fab for quick daily pick up of crumbs and cat hairs!

I like my new Dyson 7 which has a booster which uses more battery but cleans up the very soft cat hair.

I hate my Bosch Athlet. Difficult, awkward, filthy to empty, power runs out too soon, needs emptying every time, bloody useless at stairs.
