We had one of those stinaless steel one - Begins with a B and yes, was a complete PITA to clean, finger prints galore. Give me a plastic jobby anyday

charliecat · 24/08/2007 15:40

I have one of those big huge silver bins, you know, a dustbin like folks used to have before wheelie bins were invented.
Black bag in it, very little cleaning involved, once I think when the bag split.
No shining the stainless steel bin here!

nailpolish · 24/08/2007 15:40

i shall note that down and avoid it at all costs

i have just chucked my bin cos it drove me bonkers cleaning it -food around the lid

Fimbo · 24/08/2007 15:40

I just use a carrier bag and chuck it out as I go along - hate bins.

But I saw in a magazine quite a nice one that is shaped to fit supermarket bags if you are using them as a liner, will try to find it (may take a while.......)

nailpolish · 24/08/2007 15:41

charlie would it fit into a space half the size of a kitchen cupbaord/ where id dyou get it

brabantia metal one but painted green

great, only have to dust the top occasionally, wipes clean otherwise when food does get on it. We hae the one with the foot pedal not the touch lid.

Tigana · 24/08/2007 15:42

Large-ish shiny(once) brabantia (sp?) one, it is filthy on outside - covered in fingerprints and some mud kindly smeared on it by the dogs...ho hum.
But find it easier to wipe clean ( with microfibre jobby) than plastic ones.

FoghornLeghorn · 24/08/2007 15:43

That's it Brabantia

charliecat · 24/08/2007 15:43

Local hardware stores tend to sell then in various sizes..

PenelopePitstops · 24/08/2007 15:43

this one but in green

Oh I wouldn't recomend a slimline one - I couldn't fit a carton and a tea bag in ours

PenelopePitstops · 24/08/2007 15:52

ooh no we dont have the slimline one in fact, we have the 30 litre one....was too busy guessing by the pictures!

lizziemun · 24/08/2007 16:24

I use carrier bags, and throw out each day.

I have a hook on the back of the kitchen door by the dishwasher. But when i clear the plates in the evening into newspaper before throwing away.

Mainly because i find bins get grubby, and or overfilled.

wolveschick · 24/08/2007 16:46

brabantia 30 litre-the joy of these is that Brabantia will replace lid if it breaks free of charge for 10 years. Clean with stainless steel spray and occasionally go over with baby oil. Love it

Skyler · 24/08/2007 17:00

I LOVE my Brabantia 30 litre touch lid bin. It is my fave thing in my house. Just wipe it over when I remember. It is an almond one though, not the stainless steel type. The lid doesn't often get grubby as long as I aim straight.

nailpolish · 25/08/2007 13:41

i am at present using a carrier bag on a hook under the sink

(i know its fine Fio )

but i wondered if there had been a bin invented that was possibly self cleaning. obviously not. they sned men to the moon, why cant a decent bin be invented??
drvies me nuts
i hate bin cleaning
am qite intersted in fimbos bin cos i do like using carrier bags, but i would have to investigate the lid for cleaning purposes first

ta folks

I have one of these painted in Farrow and Ball dayroom yellow and it is fab!

www.seatandtidy.co.uk/index.html

MrsBadger · 25/08/2007 14:19

we have v narrow awkward binspace - took ages to find one thus to fit it
tis no longer 'mirror finish' though

this one is fairly slim too

NadineBaggott · 25/08/2007 14:23

this is mine www.johnlewis.com/Home+and+Garden/Laundry+Room/Laundry+Room/Bins/755/230394089/Product.aspx from John Lewis and is 10 quid cheaper than the Brabantia

Although it has an inner lining I still use bags, so much easier.

So cleaning is a doddle.

NadineBaggott · 25/08/2007 14:26

That's great alibubbles, I like!

We used the carrier bag and chuck away method for years but we had our kitchen done and didn't want manky carrier bags hanging around

nailpolish · 26/08/2007 16:03

ah alibubbles i like that very much!
mrsB, the lids of these bins send shivers down my spine. i can just see bits of chicken skin and toast crumbs being lodged in those lids

the john lewis one is v attractive, i migh go and see that in theflesh
