How many clothes do you have?

I am really struggling with the volume of clothes in my house! I can’t work out what is normal and even though I have got rid of a lot of clothes recently I swear to god they seem to be continually multiplying.

I have one large wardrobe (about a metre wide) and a narrower one to myself, plus 3 chest of drawers - standard size. If you know the Pax and Malm range in IKEA that’s my bedroom.... and then I have some boxes on top of the wardrobe with scarves/fancy dresses and fancy lingerie. I do vacuum sac my seasonal wear so that goes up the attic, but I can’t get over how I have two loads of washing on the go and my wardrobe and drawers are absolutely bursting. I am in a tricky situation where I am trying to lose weight so I have clothes that are a bit too big for me and clothes I am waiting to get into so I guess I have more clothes than I would usually have... but honestly... how do you police your wardrobe to stay in control? How many jumpers/jeans do you operate with? I feel like getting used to a capsule wardrobe would be less stressful.... And maybe I don’t need 10 sets of pyjamas but I really like them all?

Am feeling totally useless! Please someone give me a good shake and some advice about decluttering!

I think that’s a lot and I do love to shop and buy clothes.

If you’re losing weight don’t buy anything new.

Somethings I go on and off so they tend to stay in the back of my wardrobe like party dresses and the like. But I do have a good cull every few months.

Even if you like all the PJs, presumable there are ones you reach for more? If you have 3 you really love, under what circumstances would you reach for the other 7? (This helps my DS(6) let go of t-shirts...)
I have about 1m of wardrobe and 4 drawers. No seasonal stash. Currently a bit overcrowded as I'm postpartum so wearing maternity stuff and non maternity. I do have a stash of clothes which are not suitable for breastfeeding or being pregnant in (about a bag for life's worth).
The trick is not to keep buying stuff...

A chest of drawers each and DH and I share a small wardrobe.

We have moths. They munch anything that is left dormant too long. It stops you from hoarding even if it is awful!

Probably much like you, far too many. I buy a lot from charity shops though so need to knock that on the head! I have a massive clear out once or twice a year but still seem to have far too many. I sometimes forget what I've got and seem to stick to the same things all the time which kind of defeats the object really.

I know I have been guilty of buying too many clothes... I have only bought a handful of items this year though... but the fact remains I’ve been awful historically. I do like variety and if I find something I really like I go and buy it in a few other colours (I have my fave pyjamas in black (x2), grey and burgundy Blush

Okay, so I’m going to slowly start getting rid of clothes that have served their time. And clothes that I have duplicated... I guess “one of” should be plenty. I got rid of a bunch of cardigans today as I can’t even remember the last time I wore one, I don’t even know why I have them all in so many colours Crown Confused

I don't think duplicates are necessarily a problem... if you do love and use them. So if you basically alternate wearing your two identical black pjs, and when laundry backs up wear the grey and the burgundy, then excellent! You can move on the other 6 pairs which are a teeny bit disappointing by comparison.
Marie Kondo is very good on this.

Allocate a space for different types of clothes, then cull so that you only use that space.

If you find things that you had forgotten you ever bought, then you don't need it.

I did the Does this being me joy thing...

Though I did not kiss each item before putting it in a bin bag...

You have to be quite ruthless

I have one wardrobe and three drawers. My DP has four wardrobes and seven drawers.

I try hard to never buy anything & I still have heaps & heaps. Maybe 20 short sleeve tops, for instance, In addition to similar numbers of 3/4 sleeve & tank tops.

I put everything in bags a while back, had to take stuff out to wear it. I actually did wear everything by end of 1 year.
