Appliances you couldn't live without

TempestHayes · 08/12/2019 20:00

About to move into large house from a small space. This'll be the first time I've got space for a microwave, dishwasher and dryer. Exciting! I could also think about a robot vaccuum, as we have the floorspace.

What other appliances would you consider must-haves? Coffee-machines, for example - must-have or luxury? Rice steamer. They've probably invented completely new appliances I've not even considered.

Bean to cup coffee machine , instant pot and dishwasher would be my top three

Ffsnosexallowed · 08/12/2019 20:02

Washing machine!

wowfudge · 08/12/2019 20:04

People rate boiling water taps. We have one at work, but I wouldn't bother at home, I just don't feel the need.

The ironing equivalent of a dishwasher would be brilliant. Not that I do much ironing though.

I have an Instant Pot, which I really rate.

Bread maker
Dyson cordless vacuum

marblesgoing · 08/12/2019 20:10

Cordless shark
Dishwasher
Tumble dryer
Tv in kitchen
American fridge freezer

Candlebarbara · 08/12/2019 20:10

My dishwasher broke down yesterday. I’ve ordered a new one today.

Same happened with the washing machine last year.

Them and the kettle I wouldn’t live without.

Khione · 08/12/2019 20:19

Make sure the tumble dryer is a heat recovery one. No humidity; no overheating the room and, because the heat is recovered and recycled, much lower cost per drying cycle.

Smart sockets that can be controlled through Alexa or some other smart controller. Built in rubbish, recycling bins.

If you are having a new kitchen make sure all units are pullout or drawers so that all the space is useable.

Instant Pot. I actually have two, an 8l and a 3l. I rarely use my oven and hob since buying them.

Dishwasher.

HundredMilesAnHour · 08/12/2019 20:27

Coffee machine is essential for me. Followed by the microwave and toaster. Kettles, dryers, dishwashers, rice cookers (?!) I can happily live without - actually I do live without apart from the kettle which gets used about once every month!

Mustbetimeforachange · 08/12/2019 20:30

I love my boiling tap.

Pipandmum · 08/12/2019 20:35

Must have: washing machine, dryer, vacuum cleaner, microwave. What I'd love but could live without if I really had to: dish washer. What I recently got and use alot but is not essential: coffee machine and boiling water tap.
How did my mum work, have three kids, and live without any of the above? With cloth nappies too!! I think she had one of those sweeper thingys.

ClientListQueen · 08/12/2019 20:37

Small ones but I love my toastie maker and also mini chopper - I use the chopper so much for onions, carrot, celery, salsa, guacamole...

AdaColeman · 08/12/2019 20:40

Dishwasher is essential.

TempestHayes · 08/12/2019 21:20

Thanks for the tips!

@wowfudge I'll probably skip the taps, I'm honeslty kind of scatter-brained and I'd only end up turning it on all over my hand. I've had them in offices and I don't think they're ever really hot enough.

@Khione thanks for the info! Just the kind of stuff I'm after - I've mentally switched off from the world of appliances for a few years so I'm sure many common complains have been ironed out. And recycling bins will be a godsend!

I have an omelette maker. Sounds totally useless but I use it a few times a week, so there are kitchen gadgets I don't write off too fast.

I'm going to research Instant Pots. I've honestly not gotten any of the slow-cooker/pressure cooker/pot/other heaty thing items because I'm not sure of the differences, costs per use or electricity use, or of their versatility. I need to look into it more.

My halogen oven gets used more than my normal oven.
My slow cooker and steamer also get used regularly.

userxx · 08/12/2019 21:44

Dishwasher. Couldn't and won't live without one.

NaomiFromMilkShake · 08/12/2019 21:48

Nutri Ninja

bluebells1 · 09/12/2019 07:08

Dishwasher, Dyson and Instant Pot.

breakfastpizza · 09/12/2019 09:35

  • Shark Lift Away
  • Mounted TV in bedroom. Pay someone to put a socket in/hide the wires. I paid £80 in London and he made the wall good again.
  • Update the most-used plugs with USB sockets. One beside the bed, one beside the sofa in the living room, one in the kitchen. No more fumbling for chargers!
  • (Not an appliance, but) hooks and good shelving in the utility, hooks on backs of doors.

Enjoy your new home. Smile

livingthegoodlife · 12/12/2019 13:46

Bread maker
Bean to cup coffee machine
Dishwasher
Washing machine with separate tumble
I love my KitchenAid but to be fair, a handheld mixer is still good. I like how simple it is to use, easy to clean and keeps me hands free so baking is quicker.

isseywith4vampirecats · 13/12/2019 12:10

washing machine
cooker

carpet shampooer
