help me create a tasteful colour scheme for ds2's bedroom....he wants it 'ORANGE'!

Hmmm, maybe it was a bad move trying to get design input from a 3 year old....
The room is big, on the top floor of a victorian terrace, north facing. I am planning on floor paint and painted walls. Anyone any bright ideas about a nice scheme for wall and floors with a bit of quite strong (but tasteful!) orange to keep ds2 happy?

(oh, and while we're at it, ds1 wants 'yellow'...)

you could do one wall a strong orange and leave the others white

was thinking along those lines - can't really find an orange paint that is orangey enough but still nice, iyswim. Anyone out there recommend a nice orange colour?

I'd recommend looking at something from the Dulux heritage colour range (this is how we handled DS' request for a red playroom - the colours on the internet are not entirely accurate, but there are some nice orangey colours, and the Edwardian lemon is quite nice (not quite the right colour on the screen).

I'd be tempted to do a cream/neutral colour on teh walls and ahve bright orange blinds/curtains/rug/duvetcover etc

FoghornLeghorn · 22/08/2007 12:30

I agree with MamaG. I am doing DD1's room in a couple of weeks, doing it greens, orange, pink etc but will do all walls white and then funk it up with loads of bright accessories, duvet etc

Defo good for changing when they outgrow it

elliott · 22/08/2007 12:48

mmm, yes I like that gamboge colour...I hadn't seen that Dulux range.
Will probably do one wall orange and the others creamy (don't really like plain white). Wondering what colour to paint the floor now!
Have looked for a good strong orange coloured fabric but struggling a bit - perhaps I need to look beyond John Lewis!

Have a look on vertbaudet for accessories - they do quite a bit in ... er.. 'vibrant' colours.

warthog · 23/08/2007 13:34

i'd add in accents of blue.

elliott · 23/08/2007 14:19

Yes, I thought blue might go well with it - ds2 however would like accents of purple! (he pointed to a deep purple colour and said 'that would be nice for cushions' - that's my boy!)

We've got our house on the market and last weekend painted both ds's rooms cream, got cream curtains - all posters/boy things gone for the moment in an attempt to sell it...

Have bribed them with promises that they can decorate their bedroom in the new house any way they want and so far ds2 wants a rainbow on his wall (they're going to share a double bedroom) and ds1 wants the death star on his!!

cappuccino colour walls with orange curtains/cushions etc...
