Walls covered in mould!!!

We moved into a rented property the beginning of October. When I did the viewing the only issue I could see was that the upstairs needed painting and bathroom was iffy looking! We rent down the private landlord route just because DH credit is shot from when he was younger. (We're only 21 & issue because he was self dependant from been 16).

The day we moved in I got electrocuted from a dodgey socket, the landlord said they'd send someone round...they still haven't almost 2 months on, we just don't use that socket.

The first shower we had there the water leaked through the ceiling down to the kitchen, quite heavily. Told the landlord she sent her husband and he re sealed around the bath, it still leaks abit but whatever.

The problem we have now is , after two weeks of been here I started to notice mould in the kitchen, I just left it. Then the whole wall started to get it. I contacted the landlord who told me there was paint in the kitchen cupboard and just to paint over it , so I did. Within maybe 3 days the mould came back through, iv not painted it since because what's the point.
We pulled the sofa out to clean under, all under the radiator is black with mould, i probably have another 3 big spots of mould in the living room which is just spreading. It's also in 2 of the three bedrooms, it's coming through bad in our bedroom.

The biggest issue I have is I have 2 children, 2 years old & 9 months old. My 9 month old has had a chest infection the past 2 weeks and I'm concerned it's due to the mould.

We told the landlord we're leaving January due to DH working away & I need to be close to family. I asked about our deposit & she's spent it & have to wait till she has the money before we can have it. It was £800 so it's not worth us losing.

She's been funny with us since we told her we're moving. How do I ask her to deal with the mould ? Do I bother?

Are you serious? She's spent it? You can claim for 3 x the deposit because its not been protected.

Firstly this is a bad house and a bad landlord. When you paid your deposit the landlord has 14 days to pay it into a deposit protection company and you should have been given the information which one. If this has not been done it is illegal and yo are entitled to put in a claim for up to 3 times the amount. There also should have been a condition report inventory given to you to agree. Did you get this house through a letting agent?

In the short term before you move out, be sure to ventilate as much as possible, open windows etc, put on the heating. Open a window before showering and try not to dry clothes indoors. Was all the walls with a dilute bleach solution. This will reduce the spores that cause the balck mould. If you are moving out I would just focus on getting your deposit

No just through a private landlord online. We haven't signed a tenancy agreement either

You need to check your legal rights. I suspect it doest matter if you have no tenancy agreement ( she cant hold you to 6 months) But the issue is the legal responsibilties for the deposit. I think a letting agency might be able to explain it to you but my money would be that they are still liable to lodge the deposit with a holding company like the Deposit Protection service. It was for tenants like you that this law was made. In future please use a proper letting agent. I know they cost, but it will save you from dodgy landlords

The whole thing sounds dodgy!
