YES! or rather my Romanian ladies do them. As they are 100% cotton and we have a superking size, and 3 kingsize beds in this house there is a lot of laundry. Especially as I change my bed every two or three days because I just love fresh linen. I don't use duvets eiither, given them up and have a waffle cotton blanket between two sheets like they do in posh hotels!

Beenleigh · 21/08/2007 09:27

hilarious!! I honestly thought you lot would be militant fitted sheet ironers. Excellent, I shall not iron mine either. I have just invested in a fabulous new iron and was getting carried away with it. I have to say, I do love ironed pillow cases and duvet covers though, even though prior to new iron, I hadn;t ironed any in years.
I'm am on mat leave funnily enough, have 2 dds though, 22 months and 7 months, so ironing fitted sheets is a little surplus to requirements. Maybe I'm trying too hard to be a domestic goddess!! lol

OK time to share the secret of folding a fitted sheet by the original domestic goddess martha stewart

flamingtoaster · 21/08/2007 09:49

When we got married DH saw me about to iron a sheet and said I was never to iron bedding so I never have!

themoon66 · 21/08/2007 09:53

My god chippy.... that is amazing.

themoon66 · 21/08/2007 09:53

How sad am I? Finding the folding of a sheet 'amazing'

...... Moon wanders off to get a grip...

Clary · 21/08/2007 10:02

Ah no the moon, not sad, that sheet folding thing has changed my life! (well, my linen box anyway )

ChippyMinton · 21/08/2007 10:03

It is one of those little things which is sooo satisfying

devonsmummy · 21/08/2007 10:07

Only iron if friends are staying for the spare bed! Never for ours

Beenleigh · 21/08/2007 12:24

Chippy, that is amazing, I've just tried it now, and it's a doddle! I love it....and it would make the sheet easier to iron too, if one so desired.

That's the way I have always folded mine, but then put them in the iron press and they are done. The iron press is brilliant, fold t shirts up, put them in and ironed flat in 10 seconds.

lillypie · 21/08/2007 13:00

I can't remember where the iron is.

Gobbledigook · 21/08/2007 13:01

No - I don't iron them but I fold them as shown in Martha Stewart link! Someone taught me that when I was working on a summer camp in America when I was 18!!

hatwoman · 21/08/2007 13:15

the truth is - ironed sheets do feel a lot better, it does smooth them and make them all silky and lovely. I don;t do it, mind, But I know the theory...

Hurlyburly · 21/08/2007 13:23

Gosh. Ironing sheets. What a concept.

Do you iron curtains too? What about carpets? Dishcloths? Socks? Cushion covers? Knickers? Towels?

I think I have answered the question. But if it wasn't clear, the answer is NO. NOT IN A MILLION YEARS. HAVENT YOU GOT ENOUGH TO DO?

handlemecarefully · 21/08/2007 13:26

Splutter! - errr 'no'!

hecciesmum · 21/08/2007 16:03

ermmm - I DO iron my sheets, and cushion covers and duvets and sometimes even towels. I can't helkp it - it's my mothers fault - she got me used to it.

I'm really ashamed to say I even starch my sheets and pillowcases .....

(crawls away back to her corner)

lucyellensmum · 21/08/2007 16:25

NO, but then i dont iron anything, i havent for as long as i can remember, the creases fall out eventually, sometimes even before they need washing again. IF i did iron stuff, i still wouldnt be wasting precious time ironing bed sheets.

MascaraOHara · 21/08/2007 16:27

yes, but am single again so.. well... you know...

I do only get the worst of the creases out so to speak

PrettyCandles · 21/08/2007 16:28

When we were little all our bedding was cotton - non of this easy-care poly-cotton percale stuff - and mum ironed it all. Oh I love the smell of pure cotton being steam-ironed. Takes me right back...

But I don't iron any bedding now. Not even the pure cotton stuff. Sure it looks lovely on and feels lovely in, but the following morning you can't tell it was ever ironed, so why bother?

hecciesmum · 21/08/2007 18:34

ohhh - i'm a sucker for 100% cotton too pretty candles....and you're right about the smell. I have some linen sheets too that belonged to my great grandmother - now THEY are a bit too much hassle, but I put them on the spare bed when special guests come....i,e, mum!

as an aside i find it ridiculous, but when my mother comes to visit i spend about a week cleaning before she gets here!

NannyL · 21/08/2007 18:52

yes I do iron them

i sort of strecth the elastoc round the ironing board cover and do it in bits!
