Dyson vacuum - repair or give up! Recommendations?

So our Dyson has given up, my husband has disagnosed the issue - the spring mechanism that activates the suction mechanism is broken. The vaccum is about 14 years old at this point do you think it's better to try and repair considering its age or get a new vaccum?

Any recommendations welcome? Quite like the look of the shark or something cordless

Sorry not 14 years, it's about 8-9 years

Depending on part price and wether hubby could fix it himself ?
Or ring and ask shop that does dyson vacs for price
Then weigh up difference

I am on my third dyson upright. I passed on my previous two to two sons. Lovely repair shop up the road where repairs are quick and efficient and certainly much cheaper than buying new. Sadly, repair man tells me that my Dyson Ball cleaner is now showing signs of wear where the bits connect and may only last another couple of years. Not as good as the old models apparently. I would say get it repaired.

Husband not confident he can fix it himself - despite taking apart and rebuilding the entire vaccum 🙈
There a 2 approved Dyson repair shops near us so we are going to visit and see what they say. I think the actual part to replace is only £2.50 from what we can find online!

Oh wow, if he can take it apart and put it together that’s an achievement
You tube it ? Everything is on there
