How long to tidy and clean your house to show home standard?

I know most of us are not at show home most of the time, but how long would it get you to take the place properly tidy and deep cleaned?

I reckon I could spend 8 hours a day 7 days a week and be done by Christmas at this rate!

I reckon 3-4 days, if I didn’t constantly have three children under my feet!

SallyAnne89 · 04/11/2019 17:00

I thought maybe I needed therapy but think maybe I just need to declutter!

5 hours from top to bottom. I de cluttered everything last week and threw away all the rubbish I didn’t need and Small clothes That don’t fit went to the charity shop. Very happy with my clean house

Daily an hour.

Today I did a deep clean and sorted three wardrobes, mine, DH and dd's.

All the kitchen cupboards, deep cleaned, out of date items thrown, beds, windows, airing cupboard, cupboard under the stairs, back garden. Literally everything.

It took me eleven hours. With about two hours faffing as my daughter is off school as not well.

A good while because so much needs to be touched up/fixed etc.

The only way to do it is to treat the house as a living thing and to constantly care for it. Touch up paint scuffs, fix broken handles, fill chips, tend the garden on a very regular basis etc. But most of us are not blessed with having the time this takes and so things get left. However the biggest single thing you can do IMO is to get rid of stuff. Stop buying more and more stuff constantly bringing it in and having to find a place for it. Friends of ours operate a one thing in one thing out policy. Their house is amazingly tidy.

Get quotes now and book someone in so you are all ready to go when you move in .

CremeEggThief · 08/11/2019 09:05

About an hour to have it looking immaculate, as it's always very tidy, including all cupboards and drawers.

Probably a week to deep clean properly and do all the jobs I rarely or never do!

Maraki · 09/11/2019 22:56

Half an hour to go over it with my beloved Shark.

We are trying to sell, so we are keeping in top of it daily. We’ve Marie Kondo’ed most of our possessions over the last year, and this really helped. Now we are paranoid that of it becoming a tip again 🙈 We also don’t want to take our rubbish with us if we ever manage to sell and move

A day as I like cleaning and hate clutter, I clean everyday and deep clean once a week.

DustyMaiden · 09/11/2019 23:16

30 seconds, there’s a cup on the coffee table.

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 10/11/2019 21:56

Well we’re actually doing this right now as AirBnbing our house over Xmas. Currently decluttering and sorting cupboards. Paying extra attention to bathrooms when cleaning (weekly cleaner started this week). Lots of little jobs around the house that have needed doing for a while. Decorator booked in for one day for paint touch ups (after we’ve scrubbed any finger printy wall areas). Last few days will be removing all clothes, food, random drawer items etc, and then cleaners booked in for probably an 8 hour clean the day we leave.

GothMummy · 10/11/2019 22:01

I would need a skip, decorators and 2 weeks off work to deep clean. I do have a big house and lots of animals though....

B00kworm86 · 10/11/2019 22:01

If I started right now it would be probably be completed in 2025. My DS would be following me around making a mess after me though, so I would just be going round in circles for eternity.

PickAChew · 10/11/2019 22:03

I'll chuck out DH and the boys then tell you when I get there. Probably by the eleventh of never.

afternoonspray · 10/11/2019 22:04

About six months because we'd need to redecorate every room, have new kitchen and bathrooms fitted, repaint the exterior, design the garden.

Just deep clean and total declutter - by Christmas is possible...

desperatehousewife21 · 11/11/2019 15:07

We’ve just moved into a brand new build (first time buyers) and still have a month left on our rental tenancy so am going to be using that time to clean it but I can see that taking me, DH and my mum a good 2-3 solid days of deep cleaning to get it to the standard they want it back in, I want my deposit back!
Am getting professional oven and carpet cleaners in but still need to do a whole house hoover, clean all the marked walls/ skirting boards. Fill in holes where pictures were and paint over the patches.
It’s the last thing I feel like doing now I’ve got my brand new sparkly house! Grin

ChanChanChan · 11/11/2019 15:11

Don't know, never tried! We have a lot of stuff - books, papers etc. on surfaces. We are not clear surfaces people!

Every room clean and tidy, a few days maybe? Show home? Probably never.

WhatHaveIFound · 11/11/2019 15:18

We have an easy house to clean (hard floors throughout downstairs and not much clutter) but i still think it would take me & DH the best part of a day to get it to an immaculate condition.

My parents have lots of stuff and I'm filled with dread at the enormous task i'll have to clear their house when they both die. I never want my children to go through that with our house!
