What do you put in your deep pan drawers

First world problem

I have a (rubbish Wren- another tread) kitchen fitted last year. The island has 2 deep pan drawers. I don’t want to keep pans in them so they are full of junk and miscellaneous items. There is no special gadgets to these draws, there just empty deep draws which look very messy.
What can I do with them?

I have big bowl, mixing bowls, large colander/sieve, dh’s fancy cheese grater, various other random big things that don’t fit anywhere else and a few random little things to fill the gaps, usually stuff that isn’t used much

lorn195 · 03/11/2019 13:31

I keep my big /small slow cookers and a few utensils in my deep pan drawer.

  1. Saucepans
  2. Lunchbox drawer. Tupperware, water bottles, lunchboxes, vacuum flasks
  3. Food prep drawer. IKEA samla box with utensils like spatulas, plus mixing bowl, scales, measuring jugs, grater, chopping boards
  4. Teatowels, cling film, kitchen roll.
  5. Baking drawer. Flour, sugar, baking powder, sprinkles & food colouring, cupcake cases, baking sheets, muffin trays, jam & spreads.

Love my pan drawers. In fact most of lower cupboard are large drawers. I have a store cupboard essentials drawer- cans, (downside can't see label.) another with dry goods- flour , rice etc, another with crockery- plates etc., another oven pans and dishes and finally 2 with saucepans, casserole dishes, colander etc. Our kitchen is quite new and still loving it. I chose drawers as I think it is easier to look inside and lift up rather than bending over and looking inside- sounds a bit anal I know- but hey I love them. x

By the way you can get divider things that make the drawers more organsied or by sectioned boxes to organise.

I love my deep pan drawers, I have quite a few Blush, here are some of mine:

  • baking drawer (cake decorating stuff, biscuit cutters etc)
  • entertaining drawer - party supplies, large platters etc
  • crockery drawer (great for all the plates, bowls etc, you can stack them all by size and see everything, easy to unload the dishwasher into as well)
  • cooking drawer - mixing bowls, measuring jugs etc
  • not sure what to call it drawer - have the ceramic dishes for pies, lasagne, tray bakes etc in it.
  • Tupperware drawer - this is messy - all the random lids that don't fit any boxes end up in here - but it's a lot better than a cupboard where it all falls out on you when you're trying to find a matching box and lid Hmm or maybe that's just me Grin

We have a few - all saucepans and frying pans, colanders, sieves, mixing bowls, oven trays, pizza trays, jugs - the list goes on.

We have a shallower one too and that has herbs and spices, mugs, cooking utensils and knives.

dishwasher tablets, rinse aid, salt, dishcloths and sponges.
I have a tall pan drawer on its own for tall pans Grin
Other side of the kitchen is
Cutlery,
Bread, bread board, toaster
Tupperware
Place mats
Electric whisk, stick blender, baking stuff
Mixing bowls, measuring jugs and more baking stuff.

I have various plastic baskets in mine - with flour, sugar, baking powder, dried fruit etc and it keeps it all 'upright' etc and you can fully open it and pick out exactly what is rather than rummaging in cupboards - depending how wide the drawer is you could put cake tins, baking trays as well upright on their sides.

MidnightMystery · 03/11/2019 23:04

I have the baking trays and tins
Another is for the kids cups, bowls and bottles
Saucepans and frying pans
One is a draw of shopping bags and a random paddling pool in the box not used.

minipie · 03/11/2019 23:05

Set 1: cooking utensils, knives and pans
Set 2: food storage (tupperware, clingfilm etc, water bottles/lunchboxes) and more pans
Set 3: cutlery, crockery, serving dishes
Set 4: oven gloves/aprons, teatowels, chopping boards, roasting dishes
Set 5: food storage (larder)

I am short so under counter drawers are perfect for me. The only regularly used things in wall cabinets are mugs, glasses and cereal, and I considered having those in drawers too.

Actually this makes me think I should move my baking stuff down from its high shelf to that empty drawer I have

Leobynature · 04/11/2019 06:57

Great ideas. I’m going to clear it all out and buy a plate organiser. I also like the clear plastic/ glass idea for ingredients.

Variera from Ikea are adjustable and cheap for organisers.

minipie · 04/11/2019 09:45

I have all my plates and bowls in stacks in a large drawer and to my surprise, they stay in place without any kind of organiser. We have a rubber non slip mat at the bottom of the drawer (you can buy a roll and cut to size) and that does the job.

Organiser baskets and boxes are useful for food drawers though, especially for small items like spices. I keep meaning to buy some to replace the shoeboxes I have at the moment... (though I suppose the shoeboxes are more eco friendly!)

SallyAnne89 · 04/11/2019 15:48

When I had a deep drawer it used to halve blender, slow cooker, cake tins and Tupperware in it. Now I don't have one and struggle to know what to do with them.

Bowerbird5 · 05/11/2019 00:17

I put pans in mine. The new induction ones and my old Prestige ones which work on the hot plate but not the induction.
I have 6 drawers graded from shallow to deep. I put foil, baking paper etc on one side next down is pans and then pans.
On the other side cutlery, baking tins, then bowls, sieves etc in the deep bottom one.
