Hello I want to start Christmas baking and general baking.

I would adore a Kitchenaid but way out of my budget as I am not sure I would bake enough. Saw an Aldi one in red looks lovely but does anyone have any feedback it is less than £50!! .

Really not fussed with brand but it goes need to look nice because if I tuck it out is site it may not get used much, the functions would need to be good I.e. do you have to keep stopping to scrape mixture from sides or just buy a hand mixer.

Someone mentioned wilko ones as being good. Many thanks.

I bought a Bosch one about 10 years ago for about £100 and it's still going strong!

It has a whisk, dough hook and cake beater attachments, plus lemon juicer (never used), blender (fab) and good grating attachments that are a bit fiddly to use so I normally don't bother.

It was a Bosch MUM something or other. Looks nice too.

redchocolatebutton · 01/11/2019 22:07

second bosh mum. mine is 5 years old and used a few times each week.

get one with 700watts or more if you want to do heavy doughs.

My Kenwood is 30 odd years old and still going strong. DM's is 60+ years old and still going strong. Parts are still available for both. The Kenwoods and KitchenAid types are expensive but you will never need another one.

Thanks everyone will look for offers on Bosch mum and kenwood like all things you get what u pay for. It might inspire me to bake more.

I bought one from Aldi or Lidl a few years ago and it looked amazing but it did not mix properly at all, was very frustrating. It was a big litre bowl, was such a shame.

julie81 · 02/11/2019 10:33

Sorry should say 6 litre bowl

Londongirl888 · 02/11/2019 11:06

Thanks Julie. Disappointing to hear that and agree that sounds frustrating.

I am surprised there're are so many available at several hundred pounds 😳

Really struggling to find a decent budget one in case I don't use it much. Happy to pay more if I find me baking more in future 😊

I have a KitchenAid because they look to fabulous! But the attachments for mincing/juicing/pasta etc are very expensive compared to the Kenwood equivalents. I would use mine more if I had more attachments but can't seem to justify buying the expensive KitchenAid attachments!

Londongirl888 · 02/11/2019 12:40

Happy what colour do you have?. I agree they look amazing. I went to the cake and bake show and they had a human sized red one there.

Shame they are on the pricey side for accessories.

Interesting that you would use yours more if you had more accessories that makes me think I would use it.

I have a kitchen aid and i use it all the time BUT I used to have a kenwood mixer that was just as good. I can’t remember the exact model but it had a few accessories and honestly the kitchen aid is not worth the extra money!

Londongirl888 · 02/11/2019 12:54

Jayne that is really helpful re the kenwood so sounds whatever I buy get accessories.

I have a kitchen aid and its superb, I would recommend you look in the 'black' sale that comes up soon rather than write it off as too expensive as they were much cheaper in that , also you can get deals at both Sainsbury's and Lakeland on the accessories from time to time , I have added the gadgets as I see them on offer

redchocolatebutton · 02/11/2019 13:03

the kitchen aid is massive with attachments. which is one of the reasons I went with bosch.
it has a neat footprint.
and all attachments can be ordered (or bought second hand) my mother's attachments (her wedding gift 50 years ago) fit my machine.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 02/11/2019 13:07

I love my Kenwood, I got it on sale quite reduced, but my mum's kenwood is 30 odd years and still going! Someone told me look at the motor output, that kitchen aides were actually less powerful.

Londongirl888 · 02/11/2019 13:09

Thanks smug good idea re Black Friday. I have no doubt it is superb and a good investment. Yes will check out deals

Red good to gear re Bosch. That is amazing re your mums accessories fitting your mixer.

A kenwood prospero is a good little mixer. There was a long running thread on here years ago about them

Londongirl888 · 03/11/2019 09:40

Thanks Hands seems the prosperous on not available to buy maybe the mum took over

I got an old Kenwood off eBay about 10 years ago for 30 quid. Still going fine. Does everything. Bought a few attachments. Looks a bit knackered but that fits in with the general look TBH Smile

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 03/11/2019 09:44

My dd got the Aldi £50 mixer a couple of years ago. It works effectively, but is quite noisy. It looks quite good on my sideboard too Grin. As a starter mixer, I think it’s pretty good. They sometimes have a better quality one at about £150 - I don’t know how that compares.

She is now dreaming of a kitchenaid.

Handsnotwands · 03/11/2019 13:22

John lewis have it

Londongirl888 · 03/11/2019 18:34

Madroid haha bless the knackered look!

Matilda ok noisy is fine. It is only used once in a while. I feel the love for kitchenaid

Hands thanks for the link Jl are good to but from Going to hang on for back Friday as it's only a few weeks away.

I bought the Aldi one a few weeks ago and it looks great but doesn't mix properly at all. I'll be upgrading as soon as I can!

Lovemusic33 · 03/11/2019 18:51

I have a kitchenaid and although they look pretty they are not as practical as some of the less expensive mixers, for the amount I use it I don’t think it was worth the money.

Londongirl888 · 03/11/2019 19:34

Jelly that is disappointing what do you have your eye on next?

Lovemusic kitchen aid do look amazing. I will only use a mixer rarely so for me it is a bit of a waste to have it sitting there.

Thanks for the honest feedback. it really helps.

go into Lakeland and chat , they told me that anything bought from them could be returned , used , no questions asked if you didn't love it or had changed your mind - it covered you having it for several years (3?) as I had already bought mine I didn't take the info in as clearly as I should have
