Clothes smelling damp

This may have been asked a thousand times before but I can't find it.

I wash our clothes at 40c, put straight in dryer (never sat for more than 30 minutes in washer), once dry they are put on an airier for at least 3 days, at this point they smell lovely.
I then put them in drawers, hung up etc

As soon as the day after when I go to get one of these items out it will smell damp, musty, to the point it cannot be worn and must be re-washed.

I cannot see any damp etc in my wardrobes so I really don't know where I am going wrong!

Can anyone help?

Have you cleaned your washing machine? Put it on its hottest wash. You could add some white vinegar to help get rid of smells in your machine

Could be wardrobe, even without visible signs. My dd's wardrobe like this, but rest of house fine. Very annoying as her clothes don't smell fresh after being hung up for a week. I just bought some sachets on amazon that claim to 'soak up' the damp so I'll see how they go!
