Remove tape residue of bookcase

CheshireChat · 20/10/2019 22:16

Basically DP thought it would be a good idea to tape a flat pack bookcase together with tape whilst moving and nothing is bringing the tape residue up. We've tried WD40, furniture polish and other stuff I can't actually remember.

Any miracle fixes for this?

It's this sort of thing.

Desolvit pre wash and stain remover is good for removing sticky stuff.

Slowchirp · 20/10/2019 22:20

Google "sticky stuff remover from Lakeland". It's fantastic stuff!

A hairdryer should melt the residue so you can peel/rub it off. Works for sticky labels really well.

Another vote for Sticky Stuff Remover. It'll do the job.

Nail polish remover

PancakeAndKeith · 20/10/2019 22:22

I’ve got stuff like that off with 3 in 1.

Sticky stuff remover works wonders! You can find it in Homebase

CheshireChat · 20/10/2019 22:49

Thanks for the tips, I think I need to get some of that sticky stuff remover as that seems to be the most common suggestion.

I was worried about using nail polish remover as I thought it might take the shine/ paint off.

Baby wipes. Keep rubbing over the sticky bit.

CheshireChat · 20/10/2019 23:59

Baby wipes didn't work this time, not sure why.

Neither did this magic cloth thingy which we used for the dishwasher and fridge and worked great.

Furniture polish- spray it on liberally and leave it for about a minute, then work away at the sticky mark using a duster. It will come away fairly easily but you may need to reapply the polish to get all of it

chrisrobin · 21/10/2019 00:09

Sorry, I meant to add- I know you've given furniture polish a go but it really is worth trying after leaving it to soak for a while rather than just spray and wipe, sorry if you already have tried soaking it.

Is the spray or liquid better?

Don't actually own a hairdryer, mine broke and I've never replaced it Blush.

We had this when DH was in charge of packing the shelves. Ended up using tiny but if kerosene on a rag then washing with detergent to remove the kerosene. Came off really easily but needed an hour outside because of the smell.

Turps.

For various reasons, our PVC window frames were recently covered in sellotape residue. Turps melted it completely and smelt amazing.

We tried olive oil, nail varnish remover, sticky stuff remover, baby wipes but to no avail.
