Please Recommend A Kettle

My trusty kettle has boiled its last and I need a new one. Despite being a cheap old thing it was the best kettle I've ever had. Lightweight, beautifully balanced and easy to use one-handed even with my arthritic fingers. It was a Homebase own-brand budget model. They don't do them any more Sad

Any suggestions?

Mine is being tempremental but I like it. It sits on a base - will find a model, but thinking about getting a whistling kettle for the induction hob instead of electrical one.

I've got a Dualit one. It was quite expensive to buy but it's lasted years and still looks new. My mum's been through four 'cheapo' kettles in the time I've had it, so now I've actually spent less than she has.

My suggestion for kettles is do not overthink! I have had various overpriced shortlived kettles eg dualit, kitchenaid. I then had a Sainsbury’s old brand kettle that lasted for years and only died due to me stupidly trying to force it to boil empty. As it had been so reliable I just picked up another completely different one in Sainsbury’s the next day. Spent less than £20 - pretty sure that was more than 2 years ago so already outliving dualit and similar past experiments.

Agree with PP that Dualit is the best. Had one for 11 years and still going strong. Looks as good as new (almost). Friends have gone through several cheap kettles in the time I've owned this.

Once it finally dies I will probably get a hot water tap instead of another kettle.

I spent a lot of money on a Brabantia that was pretty awful. Recently replaced it with a £15 argos one which seems to do the job very well, hopefully it will last. I'm in a very hard water area so have concluded that it is not worth spending money on kettles as they all get caked in limescale.

Thanks for the suggestions - I will look into all the above.

It's worth looking at the instant water heaters if you mainly use it for individual drinks. Safer if you are worried about the strength in your hands, and they start from a similar price to an expensive kettle. The jury seems to be out on whether they go hot enough for a good cup of tea though.
