I’ve just spent an hour cleaning my bath

We had an old bath. Not sure what type but the type that stains with anything you have the audacity to use in it or clean it with. Every time I clean it it looks worse. Grey drip lines running down it. And it feels very rough to touch.

I’ve scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed with a magic eraser and it’s definitely helped the stains where shampoo etc had maybe leaked round the sides but I ran out of sponge before I could properly get into the inside of it.

Obviously I’ve been using the wrong thing to clean it with so if I do manage to get it back to looking half decent what SHOULD I be cleaning it with in future?

I’ve used bleach, stardrops and various sprays in the past.

Thanks!

I’ve just cleaned mine ( enamel bath) it was badly stained and had some pain in it🙄
I was thinking about re enamelling it myself and as a last ditch attempt, I googled for ideas.

I scrubbed with astonish ( pro) left for half an hour, scrubbed again. Rinsed, then filled with water, added half a box of non bio washing powder and it’s gleaming.

Amazed as it’s been grubby and I thought uncleanable for years!

Forgot to say I left the washing powder for a few hours.

you can re-enamel yourself or get someone else to do I don't think it is that expensive in situ and could save you alot of grief

I had a bath re-enamelled in my old house. It wasn't very expensive and looked as good as new.

Jif

dementedpixie · 24/10/2019 22:20

Its not jif now, its cif

PlayerOneNotReady · 24/10/2019 22:29

I used the Tubby resurfacing kit on my stained bath, it's just like using thick paint, gives a good finish. Worth a try if you're waiting a couple of years before replacing.

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/10/2019 07:36

Isn't Cuf too abrasive to use on a bath?

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/10/2019 07:36

Cif

Sounds exactly like my bath - we will re-enamel it in a couple of years when we redecorate as it is huge and of we rip it out we will never get one that big back in there! It was put in before the walls were built (so it's about 60 years old).

Once a month I make a scrub out of bleach and bicarb, slather that over it, leave it for an afternoon and then scrub off. Works a treat.

Its still Jif in my world and I have just put Oil of Ulay on my face Grin
