Do bedspreads still exist? Looking for something to cover bare duvets/pillows etc when we are not there

If bedspreads do still exist, does anyone know where I can buy them from please (on-line, not in uk)?

I'm looking ideally for grey gingham or similar, and something not too heavy so they are easy to wash and dry.

It's a kind of gite situation (well it will be when we have finished renovating!); beds and duvets/pillows etc need covering when the place is empty.

Thanks for any advice/tips!

They are and are available on-line. The Scotts of Stow type of companies (the sort that have leaflets in colour supplements) sell them.
I'd look for bedspreads uk or something.

avocuddl · 08/10/2019 10:03

There are thousands. I literally typed 'bedspreads' into google Hmm

Slowchirp · 08/10/2019 12:13

Um so did I avocuddi obviously!

I live abroad so perhaps that's why none showed up ... even when I put UK in the search heading.

A search for bed covers produced duvets and the like.

Thanks MikeuniformMike - I'll have a look - those sort of companies don't tend to deliver outside of UK but I'll investigate ...

Don't want anything to frilly or fussy

too frilly I meant!

Perhaps I should rephrase my question...

... gite owners, what do you put on the beds in between visitors?

This website has lovely sheets and I have bought quite a bit from them but they also do bedspreads/coverlets.

Forever England do beautiful ones.

Look at bedeck website.

I'd have thought the local market would have something! Assuming you are in France.

Slowchirp · 08/10/2019 17:45

Thank you so much everyone for these suggestions! Much appreciated!

They tend to be food markets around here but I'll keep an eye out thank you! Might find something cheap and cheerful...

People I know use large sheets over the whole bed to keep dust off the duvet. If you have nice patterned sheets they will look presentable.

Slowchirp · 12/10/2019 11:08

That's a good idea - thank you miaCara and very easy to implement - quick to wash etc.

I might just quickly sew some together with a white sheet as backing and bias binding to edge it with some tiny weights in the hem.

Need to be bigger than single bed size to accommodate mound of duvet and pillows etc.

I would hate to be staying somewhere where the bed had been made up the previous month (or more) and had just been covered with a bedspread. Surely with the room not being aired it would leave a lingering smell on the bedclothes? This would also be a dust mite's heaven.

Slowchirp · 13/10/2019 15:16

I am not leaving the beds made up that long cardamoncoffee. I want to cover the stripped beds + uncovered duvet and pillows to protect them from dust & insects between visits. We have renovation work going on and the storage is minimal currently and also it is only us visiting atm (not paying guests). Once we get to that point (if we ever do) there will be storage for duvets and linen and the beds would be freshly made up just before guests arrival.

Oh sorry OP I completely misunderstood, that makes total sense then!

MrsTishellsNeckBrace · 19/10/2019 05:44

I use the next size up bed/ mattress protectors with a deep fitted edge. Readily available, breathable, stay in place cover the mattress edge too, a snap to wash and maintain eg if a 4'6 bed buy 5' size etc. to allow for the thin bump of the pillows and quilt.

Slowchirp · 19/10/2019 15:54

That's great advice MrsTishall thank you! Much appreciated!

No worries Cardamom!
