How to keep a new bathroom clean

Have just had the bathroom done and would like to keep it in top condition. Any tips for keeping mould and limescale at bay, especially around bath and shower sealant? What else do I need to be sure to clean each week and which products are your favourites? Thanks!

The tip to keeping a bathroom clean and looking good is to clean it regularly. Use delimescale products and generally don't allow dirt/mould etc to build up. If you do a thorough clean of your bathroom at least once a week, you should find that it remains looking good for the long term.

I bought a sqeegee for the shower. It only takes a few seconds a day, but has made a huge difference compared to before.

Daily:
wipe the countertops and sink with dry cloth.
Squeegee shower screen and dry bath sides after bath:shower with dry cloth.
Put disinfectant in the flush of the toilet.

Weekly: put bleach/limescale remover inside the toilet and leave overnight

Wipe the floor with disinfectant or bleach

Spray bath and shower walls with vinegar then wipe

Monthly: dip shower head in vinegar.
Use tough lime scale remover to spray sink and bath tub and shower screen
Clear drains
Use bleach overnight to get rid of any moulding around the taps or on bath edges

I use splosh bathroom cleaner regularly as well as their toilet cleaner. Keeps your bathroom clean and saves waste. Occasionally I use the pink stuff on the sink and shower.

Thanks for all the advice.

a water softener - absolutely fantastic thing

SuzeD29 · 08/10/2019 12:35

I second the water softener recommendation. I had a softener installed when we refitted all our bathrooms over a year ago and there's no limescale or soap scum. Cleaning is so quick and easy

Rathkelter · 08/10/2019 14:36

@SuzeD29 was it expensive to fit? We are in a hard water area so could be a good investment.

I've ordered some Splosh products, thanks @firstime..

Yes water softeners is the answer. We had our bathrooms done last year and after few months I couldn’t take it anymore so decided to have water softeners done and it’s been the best things ever!

Palaver1 · 13/10/2019 06:33

Yes and also on the skin it’s the best thing ever no more limes ale build up

Palaver1 · 13/10/2019 06:34

Scale

Soontobe60 · 13/10/2019 06:40

OP, do you have a good extractor fan? The best way to keep mould at bay is to keep humidity as low as possible. A damp bathroom is mounds best friend!
You should have had a fan fitted with the bathroom as it's regulation now, but if you didn't, buy yourself a small dehumidifier and keep it on low outside the bathroom with the door open.

Rathkelter · 13/10/2019 16:15

@soon there's a window. Is that not enough for steam extraction, do you think?

Yes if it's left open long enough, but in winter that's going to make it very cold! My DD has an internal bathroom with a rubbish extractor. I bought her a dehumidifier a few weeks ago and she cant rate it highly enough. She leaves it on outside the bathroom during the day and overnight. It's surprising how much water it collects.
