In desperate need of a laundry product that shifts blood

Hi everyone. My ten year old and has recently started her periods. She hates sanitary towels ( that’s another issue) we’re getting quite a lot of leakage and blood stains. I’ve tried soaking stuff in salt water, all her underwear looks horrific. I don’t mind what the product is- powder, liquid etc I just want something that shifts actual stains. This week I’ve tried the Ariel pods, persil power something, it was blue, I think I got non bio? so not shocked it didn’t work very well. Also a surf powder with coconut smell, stains still haven’t shifted. If anybody could recommend something that works I’d be so grateful, thank you.

I've never had an issue just using bio powder. Rinse through with cold water first if its heavily stained

Try rubbing washing up liquid into the stain too but use cold water, not hot.

What towels is she using? Maybe needs a different brand/size

Cold water, peroxide on whites, coloureds stain remover on everything, hand wash before sticking in the machine.

Cold water rinse first, vanish oxi in the pink tube, leave for 20 mins then wash in bio. Dry in sunshine where possible - UV light is ace at breaking down stains.

It might be too late now, but you should soak items in cold water with salt first, then warm wash with bio powder.
Never use hot water for blood stained clothes because it seals the stain into the fabric.

And I get hating sanitary towels. Too plasticky. What about some lovely soft reusable cloth ones though, in black. Or period pants.

You won't be able to save them now. You've set the stain with hot water.
Soak them in cold water and salt, rinse and scrub and then wash them through properly.

Get her some period pants. Seriously.

It took me WAY too long to realise this, but stains don't show up on black pants. If she's not into towels could you look at reusables? Or period pants?

Hope she has a massive bar of chocolate, periods suck.

If they’re white then soak in bleach in cold water then wash in bio and dry outside. And buy black knickers for her next period. Or maybe absorbent period pants if she hates pads

You need to soak them in lukewarm water on its own first. Tepid water, only just warmer than cold. Then, after that I use gel type stain remover, leave it one for 5 mins, scrub it in and then put in the normal 40 degree wash.

ACE Gentle Bleach shifts blood completely. I'm a midwife so it's not uncommon for my uniforms to be bloodstained. It's funny stuff - when you pour it on the bloodstain it bubbles up in a white froth. I then wash as normal.

I also use reusable sanitary towels at night time and use it on those. They're immaculately clean after a few years of use.

I don't understand the tips about using salt, as salt is often used to set dyes not remove them, but I could be wrong!

Fwiw op, I use the old-fashioned Vanish stain remover soap bar , it works really well with cold water and a bit of elbow grease.

Also, my teen has black pants for when she is menstruating. Marks & Sparks and Next and John Lewis sell them.

The pants sound beyond fixing. If period pants aren't being bought, or even if they are, you can get her black pants. My eldest has some black ones. I have some black ones. They're a godsend for this sort of reason.

Get her some period pants.

Bloodstains always come out fine for me using Ariel bio powder plus a scoop of the Vanish Platinum stain powder for whites.

I wash on 40 usually and it seems fine, but thinking about it, 30 or cold wash might be better for blood.

But yeah - black pants are the way past this issue.

My son gets a lot of nosebleeds and the best blood stain remover I have ever used is Ecover stain remover with the brush that you rub in then leave to sit for an hour before going in a normal wash.

It has even shifted really old blood stains from pillows where DH has changed DS’s bed linen but not thought to wash the actual pillow and I’ve discovered it weeks later when it’s been my turn to change the beds!

Biotex is a specialist soaking and pre-wash powder. I soak stained items for 4 hours before washing with bio powder. Seems to work here.

Chuck the normal pants. Buy her period pants. Modibodi do a kids range. Honestly, I got some over the summer. Life changing.

Cold water only. Just buy her black pants!
