How do you get hair of the floor?

The hoover (Dyson big ball) seems to be missing a lot of hair on the floor - is there a trick I am missing?

Shouldn’t do. Does it need maintenance as it sounds like the suction isn’t as powerful as it should be. Also check the brush doesn’t need clearing.

Shower/window squeegee. Drag it over the carpet. Loads comes off.

Papergirl1968 · 07/09/2019 14:26

I have to brush the carpets first before hoovering - I moult a lot!

I moult constantly, our floors are covered in long brown hairs - it's amazing I'm not bald. The only solution I have found is to brush my mane hair outside, which does seem to reduce it a fair bit. The long hairs properly jam the brushes of your hoover and periodically I have to snip them all out

I’ve said the same about being surprised I’m not bald! I’ve got thick hair but it never gets much past shoulder length - it seems to naturally fall out then.

I get this too. I've started to hoover with the nozzle attachment first and then with the rotating brush head (cylinder vac).

It's Dysons I'm afraid, ours is exactly the same and drives me batshit regularly. We bought an extra attachment for carpets which has a spinny brush bit which is better, but the head is tiny in comparison to the main floor brush so not a real solution for quickly getting the carpets clean. Keep looking at Miele vacuums enviously but I hate to buy a new one before it's actually broken.

Crocs/trainers- if you walk up and down dragging your feet it collects all the hairs in satisfying clumps to just pick up. Works VERY well on dog hair!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/09/2019 18:50

'Wipe' the floor in a circular motion wearing a rubber glove. Or buy a brush with silicone bristles. Both will pick up hairs.

I don't have a dyson. We have the annoying combination of tiled floors in some areas and carpets in others which means all dust, cat hair, and human hair all seems to end up on the tiled floor of our hallway in great long swathes, even within an hour of cleaning them.

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 08/09/2019 10:01

i used to have a Miele cat & dog and never had the problem. I have long hair that is falling out all the time (I am also amazed i'm not bald!)

So to brush the carpet what do you use? I can't getting on hands and knees to do the whole house it would be a nightmare. Is there a specific broom type I can buy to help here?

You can get rubber bristle brooms like hairdressers use. My mum uses one of those dog grooming mittens to get dog hair out of her carpets.

rubber broom
