I keep on posting about my lovely Siemens whenever washer/dryers have come up on similar threads. It is not the cheapest buy but in the past I have had various Hotpoint and Hoover models which have not washed as well and have had various problems. One machine I had was so dreadful I actually took out that awful appliance insurance which actually proved to pay for itself in call out charges.

I have just got the basic model, not an integrated one.

Ours is amazing for a basic model. It’s an Indesit IWDD7123.

What I’ve learned with a W/D is:

  1. Usual wash
  2. Wash finishes, take everything out and leave door open
  3. 20 mins later, pile it all back in and do a proper dry cycle

Integrated combos just don’t work but separating wash and dry seems to be a good plan!

@Dollywilde opening the door I can understand but why do you have to take it out and put it back in again ?

Adding my 2p worth to Dollywilde’s post. You can programme the drying cycle to come on automatically as soon as the wash is finished. That’s handy if you want to wash and dry something overnight.

I don’t do that very often as I nearly always have mixed washes of things that shouldn’t be/I don’t want to tumble dry. I do agree with Dolly that if you open the door, you can check nothing is scrunched up in the corner of the drum. You don’t have to take the washing out at all but I can see why opening the door to check and giving everything a quick swoosh if needed might mean the washing comes out dryer and dried slightly more evenly.

Dolly how much was yours? Looking for something cheap for my ds to stop him bringing laundry home!

bodgersmash · 07/09/2019 07:50

Love mine - not cheap but hoping it will last a very long time. Washing has three dryness settings. Bosch serie 6 wash & dry 10/6kg. Fab fab fab, Which Best Buy.

We have an AEG 7000 series, its brilliant. 9kg wash, 6kg dry
There is a 60 min programme that washes and dries a small load which is brilliant for emergencies. The steam thing is good for shirts too. Has 1600 spin.

@margaritaproblems
Haha I’m not sure! To my mind it was just to get as much air into the machine as fast as possible and take out the moisture. Any longer and I’d feel a bit grim about having the washing sitting out unpegged, but I find if I don’t do it things are warm but a bit damp feeling after a dry cycle.

@ThighThighOfthigh It was this one - £289 from JL at the moment. Although recent reviews aren’t as promising as older ones so possibly an issue now? We’ve had ours 3 years no trouble and use the dryer probably once a fortnight in summer (for sheets and towels) and once a week in winter (just DH and I and I’m too nervous to tumble some of my nicer bits).
