Basically I have a patch on my living room carpet that smells horrible! I've been over it with a vax carpet cleaner, used zoflora, dettol all in one spray, scrubbed with carpet foam etc and if anything it just smells even worse.. I have no idea what has been spilt or caused it, it's under some foam play mats and only discovered it when I lifted the mats up one day to hoover the whole room Blush I've got 10 month old twins and a 4 year old so could be that they've wee'd on it and I've not realised but soaked through the foam into the carpet maybe? Any suggestions would be helpful as it's driving me mad 😩

It might have gone through to underlay or floorboards OP, are you able to have a look? Pet shops sell good sprays to neutralise wee smells, that might help. Good luck!

The first thing I would start with is bicarbonate of soda as it neutralises smells. Cheap and cheerful so got to be worth a shot. We had a horrible smell coming from fridge and all the fancy sprays in the world didn’t help and it’s the bicarb that did the trick in the end Grin good luck!

I could have just written this myself but on my bedroom carpet! Realised it was stale milk, smells AWFUL

Ok thank you for everyone's replies😊 I've just sent DP out for bicarbonate of soda to try first and will go from there.. going to put it on the carpet when all DD's are in bed and leave until morning then hoover it up.. will deffo try the pet wee sprays as well if that doesn't help!

I'm finding an ozone generator works quite well (Puripod, for small spaces). Contrary to what it claims, it's not an ioniser, and not good for lungs. Essentially it bleaches the air, and should only be used when people are out of the room (eg overnight).

Well.. the bicarbonate of soda did the trick! Hoovered it all up this morning and the smell is gone 😊 will definitely remember that for future reference!
