Washer-Dryer, Dishwasher or what combination.

The dishwasher has just died on us and the washing machine is on the way out. Looking at new ones and trying to decide what way to try and work it out so thought I'd pick the brains of all of you!!

Way it is now we've a washing machine and dishwasher, no room for a dryer BUT it is an absolute pain in the arse trying to get drying done. Takes up loads of space hanging it everywhere and we do at least one load a day. Generally isn't dry by the time the next load is ready to go out.

So, looked up washer-dryers but mixed reviews of amazing or not worth it because they half do both. Then started thinking if it was worth getting a dryer in instead of a dishwasher. But then would dishes be the new bane of my life instead of laundry drying all over the kitchen.

Has anyone any opinions on which is best:

Washer-dry and dishwasher.
Washer and dryer, no dishwasher.
Washer and new dishwasher, no dryer.

If one combination works wonderfully for you or one is a nightmare waiting to happen, please let me know or any other thoughts :)

Thanks.

Unfortunately, once you've had either, a drier and a dishwasher feel essential. But, if it helps, you would only really be using a drier over winter, whereas washing up is there forever.

I hate washing up. I hate laundry. However a dryer has alternatives such as a dry-buddy and heated clothes airers whereas washing up by hand is the only alternative and washing clothes repetitively because they didn’t clean properly or left a funny smell is bad for the electric and water bill.

washer & dishwasher
look for a good energy rating as elec is likely to get a lot more expensive

RuggerHug · 19/08/2019 20:59

oh I didn't know about Dry-Buddy, I'll have a look see now, thanks for the thoughts!

Do you have anywhere else that you could put the third machine? I’d have a drier in my bedroom if I had no other option Smile

I had a washer drier and it was oookay but constantly running when dc were small. I used to get an uncomfortable panicky sensation if it wasn’t grumbling in the background because silence meant I was falling behind.

I much prefer having two machines but if I had to go back to a combination it wouldn’t be the end of the workd

I love my washer dryer. Samsung Ecobubble. Never had a dishwasher so can't comment.

I am spoilt as I have a dryer & a heated airer from a Lakeland - actually I have two one that is wall mounted and one from a previous house which stands on the floor. Expensive to buy but just worth its weight in gold!
Baby stuff goes in the dryer and everything else goes on the airers. Love it

RuggerHug · 20/08/2019 10:40

I wish we had room somewhere else! Someone I know had to move all their kitchen stuff around the house when they were getting building work done and had their tv in the sitting room on top of the dryer and I briefly considered it just to have one, dam how it looked. Haven't gone that far though!

Do you have a shed? That's where ours used to live!

But if not, I'd definitely go for a washer drier plus the dishwasher.

ItsMilkAndEggsBitch · 20/08/2019 10:50

We have a washer dryer and never had any issues with it apart from once it over heated. I quite like that I can set it on a small load and in a couple of hours it's all washed and dried. Or it has a quick wash and dry function which quickly washes and dries in literally 45 mins. It's magic but only really for a couple of outfits. We use it for work uniforms

RuggerHug · 20/08/2019 12:08

We've a shed which is best described as cosy. There's an old fridge in there which could probably make room for one. It's just manky though so I think it's the idea of bringing clean clothes in and out of there never crossed my mind. Hmmm...

I would go without the dishwasher but we have 5 children so a dryer feels essential when doing 3x loads a day. Plus house drying introduces a lot of condensation in our house and an ongoing battle with mould.

We used to have a dishwasher but I never used it and prefer to wash and put away immediately. I have tons of micro fibre tea towels and dry as soon as it’s washed up. However, I am rather minimalist in nature and don’t own a microwave or toaster either. A friend recently posted on FB on behalf of someone needing essentials and listed a dishwasher/microwave/toaster in that. Apparently they are essentials Hmm

I've got a washer dryer and a dishwasher. I couldn't live without the dishwasher as I really hate washing up! I've had several washer dryers over the years, and they're definitely a lot better than they used to be! We've got a Bosch one at the moment that is pretty good. A wash and dry cycle takes quite a long time, even with the smart ones (they calculate how much drying your clothes need and adjust the dry time accordingly). I tend to set mine on the timer before I go to bed, with it due to finish just as I'm waking up and that helps offset how long a load takes to do.

RuggerHug · 20/08/2019 19:06

Wildwood that's what I was trying to figure out!! New ones I saw long run times but thought overnight would be fine, most of the reviews are years old though so didn't know if they were still a bit meh.

@RuggerHug, no they definitely do work well, it just takes a while! From memory if I wash and dry a load of towels on a hot wash for example, its about 4 hours 20 minutes. The overnight timer is a complete godsend!- I don't think I'd ever have a machine without one again!

Grinchly · 20/08/2019 20:08

Washer and dishwasher
Then get a drying rack on a pulley ( Sheila Maid for eg))
You need never iron again

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/08/2019 19:16

Put one in the shed.

oysterfound · 22/08/2019 20:04

I'd go for washer and dishwasher and look at other options for drying like a heated dryer rack, or a dehumidifier in the room where you dry.

Cherryade8 · 23/08/2019 18:33

I'd get a dishwasher and washer dryer. I live in a flat and use the dryer for bedding and towels only, the rest I dry on the balcony. Not sure how it compares to a standalone dryer but it seems to work ok.
