Tumble dryers. Vented it condenser.

I am looking at buying a dryer. I have always had washer dryers due to space but we now have a garage so I can have a dryer. My washer dryer has died and I have bought a washer but now need to look at dryers. The dryer on my washer dryers have always been crap. They have taken forever and the clothes always come out creased. I have always thought that this is because they are condensers when it’s a washer dryer so I would be best to go for vented. Am I right. I can pop the vent out of the garage window so I am free to have either.

Condenser dryers are fine nothing like washer dryers. I've had vented and condenser dryers I prefer the condenser even with the dryer outside.

I got rid of my condenser dryer as the clothes never seemed to be properly dried. Bought another vented and I far prefer it. No faffing about emptying the excess water either.

I prefer condensers. I’be never had a problem with getting things dry fast.

Lucafritz · 11/08/2019 19:45

If i had one again id go for condenser but i hate them with a passion i had an Indesit condenser last year and sold it a week after i had it as it shrunk and damaged everything i owned even on the low heat setting Hmm i think they are a false economy yes they seem convenient but id rather have a load of airers in my spare room or around my house than ever have one again.

Thanks all. Think I will go for a condenser.

I prefer a condenser. Ours collects in the door, it’s much easier to take off and put the water out.

Aaarrgghhh · 11/08/2019 23:38

Pour* not put the water out.

OpheliaTodd · 11/08/2019 23:39

You can use the water out if a condenser dryer as ironing water too.

OpheliaTodd · 11/08/2019 23:39

Of.

flumpybear · 11/08/2019 23:44

We have a condenser with a pipe too so you can drain it rather than emptying the drawer if drain available - perfect!

Expressedways · 11/08/2019 23:45

Washer dryers are all shit (I’ve used lots of different brands). We currently have a Miele condenser dryer as our laundry hook up is on an inside wall. No complaints and clothes come out dry but the vented machine in our rental did the same job much faster and we didn’t have to empty the water. If I had the option to install vented I’d go for that.

DramaAlpaca · 11/08/2019 23:48

I prefer vented, but they aren't as easy to find these days. I had to search hard to find mine, but I like it. It's a Bosch.

BrokenWing · 11/08/2019 23:51

We have condenser, only use it for towels, bedding and easy iron setting for school shirts. Condenser means we can put it or move it anywhere and it is no bother emptying the water (in a handy drawer) every 2-3 loads.

verystressedmum · 12/08/2019 00:01

I now have a vented after having condensers for years. The condensers took ages to dry things I found. The vented is great my clothes are dryer much quicker. But it was hard to find one I was surprised tbh I thought they'd be more popular.
The vent hole is in the place where the tumbler would go anyway so it's easy for us to have a condenser or a vented.

WanderingTrolley1 · 12/08/2019 00:07

Vented.

Cynderella · 12/08/2019 10:12

We have a condenser that is plumbed in and it's fine, but it does take longer than my old vented.

If I was buying again, I'd look at running costs and go for cheapest. In the past, I was washing for seven and a vented would be a better option for speed.

mommybear1 · 12/08/2019 19:04

I prefer condensers. Have used both and find the condensers much better.

ElstreeViaduct · 16/08/2019 20:50

Vented. Cheaper to buy, cheaper to run (look at actual power use not letter rating), faster, less to go wrong.

wowfudge · 17/08/2019 07:22

Definitely vented over condenser as they tend to be quicker and have a hole cut with a core drill to fit the vent hose permanently venting outside. Open windows get forgotten and of course it's a security risk.

Some condensers can be plumbed so the water collected goes into the drain instead of a tank you have to empty.

We have a condenser in a cellar. The instructions explicitly say not to use the water in an iron as it contains fibres from the clothes and can clog the iron up. I suppose you could filter it if you wanted to.
