Tried and tested methods to remove dark incense smoke stains from wallaper

Probably about 4 months worth of one burn of an incense stick a day. Can’t believe I’ve only just noticed a smoke stain on the wall. The incense stick was in a holder on top of the radiator and the smoke stain spreads up for about 15 inches. I’ve tried wipes and also white vinegar so far. I wondered if anyone has experienced this and achieved a clean wall? The wallpaper is wipeable but not washable. I was thinking some sort of powder or fine brush? Any thoughts??

Have you tried those white ‘magic’ sponges?

A slice of ordinary brown bread rolled into a ball and used as an eraser might do the trick.

Sugar soap. Buy it in a spray bottle or mix the crystals up with water yourself. Spray it on and leave for a while then wipe. You might need to do it a few times. Soot is greasy not just dirty so you need something that deals with the grease effectively. Sugar soap is also great for cleaning kitchen units.

Thanks all. I’ve got brown bread and sugar soap so will give those a try! I’m just a little hesitant as it’s wallpaper and not painted wall... stand by for results!
