How do I make my home smell like a posh hotel or shop !

Those kind of scents that delight your nostrils without being overpowering and just smell amazingly fresh ?? Lots of posh hotels in the States have this. Think Cosmopolitan Las Vegas, Four Seasons, Mandarin and also the W brand from Starwood. Has anyone invested a few hundred quid in one of those proper difuse / scent machines ? Any recommendations ? I know they sound expensive, but adding up the amount I spend on candles and reeds its not really !

I don’t think anything electrical is needed, a good reed diffuser is all you need, as well as the basics like lots of fresh air to keep cooking/pet/children smells out!

This one is great:

I just get reed diffusers from Zara.

I have a £20 diffuser from amazon and various essential oils. Makes the house smell like a spa.

TK Maxx sell some expensive brand reed diffusers at great prices. I had one that lasted for ages.

@SteamedPotatoes I know what you mean, they all smell amazing! Apparently the Las Vegas hotels have unique scents blended for them, so unless the hotels sell them they are hard to track down. I'm a bit like you, slightly obsessed with room scents and I can't bear anything artificial or overpowering. I think Neom doing amazing ones, particularly the 'Real Luxury' range but they're very expensive. If you're looking for something distinctly fresh then I also love the White Company Spa Restore range, although annoyingly they don't sell an oil, just a reed diffuser or a candle. John Lewis Mint and White Tea Reed diffuser (which they also sell as a refill) is also a fresh smell and is the nicest thing I've found that is reasonably priced. I told you I was obsessed! Grin

I've bought myself a cheapie electric oil diffuser from TK Maxx, which I'm going to experiment with some DIY recipes I've found to try and save my poor finances. I've found a recipe for a Lavender, Rosemary and Vanilla room scent that's first on my hitlist...

I love those fragrances too OP. I agree with PP, Neom have some lovely ones. I have an electric diffuser which I add the drops of oil and water too, I've got some cheap basic ones (lavender, neroli, rose) and some more expensive ones like the neom. They last ages.

I find the Neptune and True Grace reed diffusers really good for this(!).

Yes I know what you mean.... love the smell of Disney Hotel! I do think these businesses have it pumped through the air vent though, not something we can do here.

I have just discovered The Scented Scullery, absolutely fantastic Reed diffusers, candles and wax melts. Getting a nice whiff of Lemon, Basil and Mandarin as I type. Much cheaper than you know who... and these actually smell.

I mix fabric softner & water in a spray bottle and spray my blinds & curtains and then open all the windows so it blows the smell round the house and it's cheaper than air fresheners.... although the stony cove wax melt by Yankee is soooo fresh and clean smelling 😊

The spray bottle works with essential oils & water too I use a lavender mix in my baby's room

ESPA candles make it smell spa like for a while!

cardamoncoffee · 19/08/2019 06:56

For the electric diffuser users, does the scent go around the house or just in the room it is placed?

Downunderduchess · 19/08/2019 07:03

I love my expensive candles, I use Glasshouse & Circa Home brands, I'm in Sydney so not sure where else available. A quick thing I sometimes do though is soak a cotton ball in lavender oil or eucalyptus, pop them around the place, hidden from view, quite effective I find.

BogglesGoggles · 19/08/2019 07:05

Neom scents are amazing

RJnomore1 · 19/08/2019 07:06

Jo Malone green tomato leaf.

I like Yankee Candle wax melts in a little burner with a tea light under the bowl. I chop each one into six, and use one per night - I find the scent doesn't keep releasing with multiple burns. A quick not expensive fix - I'm liking anything lemon, baking or clean washing scents. Not so keen on their rather artificial floral or other fruit scents.

WomanBornNotWorn · 20/08/2019 10:53

I have to confess - I REALLY like the smell of blue Toilet Duck.
