Help! Carpet beetle infestation...

Just that really. We found these "seed-like" husks in the corners of the sitting room, and Googled. They are carpet beetle larvae and they eat wool carpets and natural fibres. Vacuuming, steam cleaning and boric acid powder are recommended for eradicating them in carpets, but is there anything else that will get rid of them quickly and effectively that I can use? They seem to have a long life cycle and can endure months of starvation.

Your best tips please, and very many thanks!

you need to-

vacuum
steam clean
sprinkle boric acid into the carpets and vacuum it away 2 hours later
then apparently it is advised to use a kit like this to ensure they are dead.

alternatively there are pest control companies that will come and kill them for you.

all the best x

Thank you sleep. So far, I've vacuumed, steamed and am waiting for the pest control kit I have ordered from Amazon! I can't find a shop that sells boric acid powder, only borax substitute.

If I haven't made a dent in it by Monday, I will find a company.

You sure it’s not carpet moths? . not that it really matters as I’m sure the solution is the same. We were plagued here last year and now I have traps set up routinely, they work well as a prevention. Little bastards have ruined my carpets.

@lamdobby, Thanks. I will add traps to the list of preventive measures. They could be moths or beetles, but all I'm seeing is the presumed larvae. I don't really care what they are but just hope I have caught them in time, although there are some threadbare patches underneath the furniture.

Good luck with them. Do get the sticky traps as soon as possible as it does stop the cycle.
