DD(7)'s bedroom - can it be tidied?

I'm looking for advice on any successful children's bedrooms.

I've managed to Kondo a fair bit of the house. I'm really struggling with DD1's bedroom. She's has fairly typical random stuff (hair things, drawings, pens, rosettes, ribbons and random things) and we're really struggling with keeping it in order and tidy. She's asked me to help her sort it (she's well into folding stuff!) and I'm stuck.

The size of room is a small double, she has a mid-sleeper bed with a mattress under for DD2's "sleepovers" so no space under there. A bookshelf full of books. A chest of drawers and cupboard (both full and upto waist height) and a small wardrobe with hanging rail only. Not a lot of other space. Most of the clutter congregates on the floor on the top of these two waist high units.

I just don't know what to do. Stack the cupboard on the drawers (safely of course) and put some more storage in? Or buy storage to put on top of these units?

She's probably at the age where she'd be happy with a desk to do homework and projects and stuff so there is the option to start again and give her until to DD2. We can't have a higher bed as the ceiling slopes on that side.

I'd be grateful for all tip, from tiny tweaks and hacks to complete overhauls. Thanks!

My dd (7) needed help with all her fiddly bits she had around her room. I bought her some small plastic storage drawers for things like her hair accessories and tiny collectable toys.

She has a 2x2 kallax in the bottom of her inbuilt wardrobe which we use as a bookcase. It's good because then it's out of sight when her wardrobe doors are closed.

I also purchased a hanging toy net which all her toys are put into as well as a toy box which doubles as a place to sit for me or her dad when we read to her at bedtime.

If either of our children have things out of place in their rooms when I go in on the mornings, i place it on their beds for them to put away. This worked well as there is now ever hardly anything left lying around. It has taught them both that they are responsible for putting their things away and they now realise that if they put things away when they have finished with them, they won't have to spend a whole day off tidying their rooms.

They have their own laundry baskets in their rooms too. When I do the laundry, I ask them for any clothes that are white for example and they bring them to the laundry room.

I've spent the morning with similar issues with DD(12)'s room and I'm going against the grain a bit.

That cupboard and drawers, are they designed to go under the midsleeper? If so why not put them back under, put up a wall shelf for knick-knacks and get a futon or similar for DD2's sleepovers? That would really maximise the floor space, and create space for her desk if you get her one. The drawers should be plenty big enough for her clothes (once Kondo'd, and assuming dresses etc hang in the wardrobe) and that would leave the cupboard for toys and boxes of knick-knacks. I could be persuaded that replacing the cupboard with kallax is a good shout but the drawers look fine to me and a sensible place to keep her clothes.

We have had desks in kids' rooms and it was a mistake - they just attracted clutter and were so full of piles that DC never actually sat at them. Our 10 year old's one has already gone and we are debating removing the 12 year old's. Things may change when she is coming up to GCSEs but there's no sign of her working in her room yet, and it suits us for her to work at the dining table.
