How to make the house feel luxurious?

I'm fed up of the same old same old, need to feel a bit pampered. How can I make my living room and bedroom have the hotel luxury feeing?

What do you do that makes your home feel luxurious?

Just to add I have tried the following -

New bedding
New towels
Nice shower gel
Bunch of flowers.

Nice M&S food in the fridge and a well stocked freezer too. Nice lighting so I can change mood to softer lighting when relaxing. Warm blanket and big footstool at the sofa. Good side table for my ‘stuff’. A full wine fridge. Fresh flowers.

Big mirrors
Scented candles
No clutter
Lamps instead of 'big lights' on

Happyspud · 28/07/2019 20:37

Oh and very clean and beautifully tidy.

gubbsywubbsy · 28/07/2019 20:38

Look on Pinterest .. I this lots of different fabrics and materials and what we call in our house 'dob de dah' which is object das and means nice things to us .. small stylish items displayed neatly .. obvs no mess or clutter.

Good quality doorknobs, handles and hooks. They don't need to be expensive but need to feel solid. You can get lovely ones online or if you're into the look, the Anthropologie sale always has good ones.

Also expensive hand soap - Moulton brown is £££ but makes your hands and everything smell nice. I always ask for a set at Christmas and eke it out as long as possible. thank

It's an expensive one but I love nice thick carpets with a spongy underlay (neither of which we have Sad) I love the feel of it under my feet and always feels luxurious and cosy

Bedroom:
Muted/Tonal decor, lots of cushions on the bed, soft lighting, clear of clutter with only a few decorative bits on display, Reed diffuser/scented candle,

Living room:
Tonal palette for everything down to soft furnishings, big mirrors, minimal clutter, lamps rather than ceiling light. Decorative items with a "theme" scented candles/diffusers.

Scented candles, lovely throws, good lighting.

bumblebeejockstrap · 28/07/2019 21:14

For living room, no clutter, not too much furniture, very few but very nice decoration pieces. Not too many colours on walls, and all in soft whites. Fresh flowers in one colour. No shades.

SaxxedtotheMax · 28/07/2019 21:18

Do you all live clutter free? Or is it all in cupboards?

I really need to get rid of some bits.

Atlasta · 28/07/2019 21:22

Lovely pictures/art and throws/cushions that follow the 'theme'. I agree a good lamp looks great and adds ambiance as does a good quality thick rug.

chimichangaz · 28/07/2019 22:19

Soft lighting, no clutter, lovely throws, nice glassware (and wine to go with it Wink , nice smells (essential oils), luxurious bedding and towels, a nice shower gel....

Azura2019 · 28/07/2019 22:32

Wow lovely lovely ideas and they are not all expensive, small changes like different texture can be easily achieved.

Thank you Star

Best quality cotton bedding in white
Velvet cushions (cotton velvet)
Heavy well made lined curtains
Stone floors
Antique rugs
Antique furniture
Colour wise creams, gold and palest sand with a small amount of burgundy or black
Antique books
Crystal decanters
Pale cream carpets, preferably as expensive as you can afford.
Fresh flowers
Beautiful Georgian mirrors
And quirky collections of odd old and rare things, I have shoe buckles from the 1700s displayed on a small table, the silver and paste stones glimmer in soft lighting and it looks beautiful.
Linen towels
Expensive hand soaps
Cushions should all have feather inserts
And I couldn't live without my goose down duvet......I love it almost as much as DH

Loving this thread!

I love the idea of scented candles but in reality I’m just too much of a wuss to actually use them because I’m petrified of naked flames.

Are there any alternative ways to get a nice scented house? I tried those plug ins but found the scent overwhelming.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 28/07/2019 23:19

@Summergarden what about wax melts?

user12398798768657 · 29/07/2019 09:22

heavy well made lined curtains

This makes a massive difference

wontletmelogin · 29/07/2019 09:27

@summergarden we have a Yankee candle electric plug in wax melt burner and it's fab! It's got a timer on too. We don't always use their melts, when they need changing I scoop out the wax and you can put your own ones in the pot.

Fizzypoo · 29/07/2019 09:29

You need the basics right. Throws and scented candles can't cover up:

Decent paint work
Quality carpet or flooring
Blinds or curtains fitted correctly
Light fittings
White or cream walls

Throws can look messy, scented candles can look like clutter if they're not arranged right.

Plants always look nice, real ones not fake tat.

Big mirror, not glittery. No rugs on carpet.

LaurieFairyCake · 29/07/2019 15:43

I have the Neom well-being diffuser. There are many, much cheaper diffusers on Amazon - lovely ones for £22

Totally fantastic as it's just water and the essential oils you put in being put out into the air (I love candles but there is still a caution with them because of the burning off chemicals - even when they're soy or natural waxes)

It's totally changed the feeling of the space - it's less dry, smells better obviously- much more natural
