Toothpaste worked on my desk

ImpossibleNovelty · 21/07/2019 10:31

Rubbing alcohol is apparently good.

School Staff here.

Get a Drywipe Marker and go over the permanent, then it'll wipe off immediately.

Gets used for desks, gloss paint, noticeboard covers and whiteboards all the time.

Toothpaste? Do you just use it as an abrasive or does it dissolve the stuff?
Table has a satin finish so I don't want to be too rough on it (should have thought of that before I wrote thick letters in sharpie on thin paper with no table protection)

I've already tried WD 40.
Should I wash that off?

Hand sanitizer in a cotton bud?

IWantMyHatBack · 21/07/2019 10:43

Just used a toothbrush and toothpaste and rubbed in circles. Worked surprisingly easily (and there was a LOT of black sharpie)

IWantMyHatBack · 21/07/2019 10:44

Yes, wash off the wd40, try the toothpaste (easimode), then if that doesn't work try the dry wipe marker

Vodka should do the trick - but try it on the underneath of the table first!

Magic eraser/melamine sponge

oh, interesting tip - will try next time I use the wrong pen on the whiteboard!

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 21/07/2019 10:51

Hand gel works on dried-in NON permanent market on a whiteboard.

spingiscomming · 21/07/2019 10:51

spray with hairspray then wipe

soberken · 21/07/2019 10:54

Magic Eraser

Second the drywipe marker, I do this at work!

theworldistoosmall · 21/07/2019 11:05

I third the drywipe marker. Did this after an agency staff wrote on all the whiteboards with a permanent marker.

Thank the squeaky voiced Year 7 on my first day at my last job who whispered it when I opened a classroom door to see a very large optimistically so penis and testicles drawn on the whiteboard that wouldn't come off with the board eraser.

I located the source of the most sniggering and made them go over it with said drywipes, giving useful instructions, such as 'You've missed a bit on the glans, don't forget the hairs at the base of the shaft and the scrotum needs some work. Oh, and by the way, if this is a self portrait, the owner should really see their GP for what appears to be a severe case of Peyronie's Disease'.

'Miss' apparently 'had bare bants, Fam' for that.

I think that sometimes, at my new, super naice school, I'll miss the little gits.

If I drink half the vodka first, that will get me under the table!

Thanks for all the suggestions.
Off to read the small print on the various markers in my house, and give the non-perm marker a go
