Is this a wasps' nest ?

Just noticed a load of wasps flying past the window and having looked outside there seems to be a cream coloured "growth" against the eaves of our kitchen roof. Does that sound like a wasps' nest and, if so, how do I go abotu getting soemone to remove it (right above the door to garden).

i think the council will come out and get rid of it- i remember being told not to try myself when we had one in the shed!

Wasps' nests are like papery, creamy coloured balls. Often found in high up sheltered places so yes, eaves of houses or attics likely.

I'd guess you need to look in the Yellow Pages for pest control.

Wasps' nests

BBBee · 30/07/2007 12:22

yes

the council charge and can take a while. I had to arrange disposal for our local preschool and it turned out that private pest disposal people were the same price as the council and could come out the next day rather than a two week wait.

You could just go out and spra a whole can of raid into it.

Our council doesn't do wasps - just rats & mice. Check your council's website - if they don't have their own service, they may give a list of recommended pest control firms.

Looks like the one Attila linked to but a bit flatter, against the fascia board of the sloping roof on our kitchen (single storey) where it meets the tile hung wall of the house. Have rung the company listed on council website and they can come tomorrow

councils charging? really? our otherwise tight fisted council must be generous in this area then- or else i didn't pay the bill

I got one removed a week or so ago. We had sort of ignored it, and then MIL said that when the weather picked up, they would become a real problem.

I phoned a local chap (found in yell.com) and he came around the following morning.

Cost £45.00.

LIZS · 30/07/2007 13:01

I think using the company I was referred to can be free if you qualify for certain benefits otherwise it is £36 plus vat.

Called my council last week. They contracted it out. Came within an hour and cost £60

LIZS · 31/07/2007 08:43

Done, less than 24 hours later which I think is pretty good service. Now got some rather annoyed(if homeless ) wasps flying around .

My mum always says leave the nests, if the wasps arent too much trouble, till about october and you no longer see any flying around. Then you can just go and break up the nests, they are almost like paper, so its not hard to do, they do not then return the next year. I was a bit dubious but it worked, we had a few nests in our loft about 4 years ago and we havent had any since! Oh and of course its free!

LIZS · 31/07/2007 10:14

tbh probably would have left it had it not been right outside the door by the patio.
