Anyone bought new wooden doors for their kitchen units? Or have you painted a melamine kitchen door?

Would like to update kitchen cupboards. Currently white melamine mfi units. I have painted similar doors in the past in another kitchen (used the special undercoat) but it was a bit of a disaster - I used gloss which then left drip marks on the backs.
Do you think it would be worthwhile trying again - has anyone had any success doing this?

Alternatively, I believe there are companies who sell replacement wooden doors to attach to the existing shell. Can anyone recommend one of these?

Thank you!

I would use a little roller to get a smoother effect on the doors. Need to paint mine actually. Don't use too much paint - 2 thin coats are much better than one thick one and less likely to drip. Can't help re replacement doors but an internet search should at least point you in the right direction and give you some clue about pricing etc. HTH

Our kitchen has painted doors. It is vile. They were white and now been painted a cornflower blue colour. It chips really easily, and needs touching up regularly. It seems to be easy enough to get them smooth, and they don't really look painted until they start chipping again.

I painted my kitchen units when I moved in. Doors were pine so just sanded them back but end panels were melamine. I think I used a special primer for melamine and then used Farrow & Ball oil based eggshell. I think the trick is using a very good quality paint like F&B - mine were still in good nick after 7 years

We have just bought replacement doors for all our cupboards, think it cost £90 all together. Although still waiting for DF to put them up.

£90 sounds really good!

I'm leaning towards painting them - I was thinking of Farrow and Ball oilbased eggshell so I was pleased to tead your post, KTeePee.
We were thinking of their Lulworth Blue but it does sound like it might end up like chopster's kitchen.

julezboo - where on earth did you get replacement doors for £90?? That sounds like bargain of the century!!

So far I have been quoted anywhere between £380 - £565 for 25 doors (which I thought was not bad to be honest)

I used Parma Grey on mine - it is blue rather than grey really imo
