Feel stupid asking this but need cleaning advice!

Hi, I feel a bit dumb asking as I'm sure there's an obvious answer but whenever I clean it kind of just swishes around bits of dust and muck which I don't know how to get off. So if I'm cleaning the kitchen cupboard I'll spray it then wipe but bits of stuff get caught in the cloth then I end up covering the whole thing in bits.

I've tried dusting first but I still get bits on the cloth and I don't know how to avoid that? I feel like I have no idea how to clean!

Thanks for any advice

Shake the bits off your cloth over the sink, and rinse it frequently

Rinse the cloth (and squeeze it out) in between wipes.

Spray cupboard. Wet one cloth and wring it out. Wash cupboard and dry off with a dry cloth.

If your cloths are shedding it's time to stop using them for that purpose.

Ditto. It isn't a wipe once and done job. Rinse after each go until the bits are gone.

It's also a technique thing. You have to sort of gather the bits in the cloth as you swipe. You don't just swipe the cloth all around. Once the bits stop being caught I the cloth you rinse bits into bowl or sink and then swipe away again. As others have said you also dry with a separate cloth.

Start at the top, work your way down, the floor being the last thing you clean. Use a cloth, rinsing frequently, using a fresh one of necessary.

Have a bucket of water with you to rinse the cloth into. I like to have a stack of cloths and move into a new one regularly, it seems quicker to me. Then I run them all through the washing machine at the end.

Also if something's really mucky I have a sponge scourer with cif for scrubbing the worst off then a bucket of clean plain water and a regularly rinsed cloth to wipe it over after.

I agree it's about technique too - you're not going round and round, you're kind of scooping the bits into the cloth and not going over clean bits with a dirty cloth. Look on YouTube for professional cleaners' secrets, specifically the S technique

If there are lots of loose bits I'll sometimes hoover them up before I clean. Then agree with others: you need to scoop rather than spread, and rinse out the cloth as you go.

OP I wanted to show some solidarity! Exactly the same happens to me and the knowledge that it will happen is one of the things that stops me starting a job.

The wise housekeepers are right though... cleaning just ain’t a quick and easy job...

As flylady says though- there’s no wrong way to mop a floor.... or wipe a worktop... or loo seat ...

(I do finish wiping the worktop just over the dishwasher with the door open though Wink)
