Period stains....

Clueless20something · 07/07/2019 20:17

Sorry to be a bit gross but I've come on unexpectedly and stained some pants and nothing seems to be getting the stain out. Tried soaking in vanish and then washing with vanish in the machine but it hasn't helped....

Any tips would be great!

Rub washing up liquid into the stain then wash with bio powder

user1494055864 · 07/07/2019 21:23

Bit late now, but in future, run under cold tap first, which will get most of it out, then use vanish.

Torvi · 07/07/2019 21:25

Sunlight

FrogFairy · 08/07/2019 16:56

Now you have washed them you might have set the stain.

In future, I soak blood stained items in cold water overnight. Rinse out them give a good rub with Astonish soap bar stain remover. Then wash and this never failed to work for me.

Mrsjayy · 08/07/2019 17:01

You might have set the stain running under cold water before washing usually helps. Astonish oxyclean is miles better than vanish imo i put in the prewash drawer and it has never failed to get s tains out.

Ds had horrific nosebleeds when he was little so have had lots of practice washing blood out.

Run the stain under a hot top- NOT boiling water as this sets it,then run bio detergent into the stain and wash as normal. Works every time.

dementedpixie · 08/07/2019 18:08

Should be cold water, not warm or hot. I rinse in cold water then wash with bio powder

LoafofSellotape · 08/07/2019 18:10

Warm water works well I find as it loosens the stainSmile If I use cold,I would soak in a bowl with salt and then wash.

VincentVanGoughandhisear · 08/07/2019 18:12

Yes to salt and cold water ☺

ExpletiveDelighted · 08/07/2019 18:16

Cold water, Ecover stain remover, leave for half an hour, wash with bio powder.

Ifsomeonehadtoldme · 08/07/2019 18:24

Soak in cold salty water as soon as possible! Then wash as usual. Stops blood lysing and staining.

yellowsun · 08/07/2019 18:32

Salt and cold water!

motortroll · 08/07/2019 20:36

Sunlight for set in stains.

30not13 · 08/07/2019 22:43

Biotex might shift it, now it's set.

is it really worth the fuss over a pair of pants though? Just reserve them for nights when you're on your period?

AdoraBell · 11/07/2019 22:34

I use cheap table salt, rinse through with cold water as suggested up thread then pour a thick layer of salt onto the stain. Leave for a few hours, or days if it was dried in, then rinse, again with cold water. Repeat if needed.

MiniMum97 · 12/07/2019 00:04

Blood sets in hot water. Run under cold tap ASAP after staining and scrub with bar of plain soap. I keep a bar just for this purpose. Hydrogen peroxide also works.

SandAndSea · 12/07/2019 00:14

I know I know!! Grin

You mix approx 26ml 3% hydrogen peroxide with 1 teaspoon sodium bicarbonate, plus a tiny dash of washing up liquid. Pour or spray it on and leave it. Wait for about 10 mins and then rinse under a cold tap. Repeat if necessary.

namechanged2000 · 12/07/2019 00:31

Milton liquid (the cheap version from savers is just as good)

Somuchroom · 12/07/2019 13:50

Rinse with cold water, Put in wash with a scoop of vanish (a proper wash not a quick wash), hang in the sun to dry. My 2 year old reusable sanitary pads are still white with this method.
