Mattress Cleaning

So, I got myself a mattress from IKEA. All's been good, it's been very comfortable. However ladies, accidents happen and one happened when I didn't have a mattress protector on (just my luck!) It's a foam mattress so I was able to take the mattress cover/'ticking' off, but it says to not machine wash, to not dry and to not dryclean, basically to not clean it at all. I'm at a loss at what do to!

Which one do you have?

We've had Morgedal (memory & foam), Moshult and Malfors (both foam) over the years. The covers can all be machine washed at a maximum temperature of 60 degrees but cannot be dry cleaned, bleached or put in tumble dryer.

I have the Hyllestad one. That's the problem, it says not to wash, like, at all :/

The ones I mentioned above were all basic foam models - they were in a rental property we inherited. Your model has latex which can be a nightmare to clean - I think harsh cleaning products can react with the latex which is why they recommend you don't wash it/dry clean it.

You could try this:
Mix a few drops of a mild detergent with water. Use a white sponge or cloth to lightly dab the top of the mattress. Don't use a steam cleaner as it will wreck the latex.
Sprinkle baking soda all over the bed to soak up odours/dirt. Allow the mattress to completely dry. You should let it dry naturally inside your house as direct sunlight/heat will destroy the layers of latex.
After it’s completely dry, vacuum all the baking soda off.

If you have a bath with a shower attachment, lie the mattress over the bath, saturate the stained bit, rub some biological washing powder into it, leave for a bit, rinse thoroughly, leave to drip-dry.

If there's a stain left, lugging it outside to dry in the sunshine can help.
