My new mattress is to warm! What can I do?

Hi! I've bought what I thought was a fantastic memory foam mattress recently. It's really comfy and I love getting in bed now, but half way through the night I often wake up in a sweat and so does my other half.

What can I do, short of returing it? Would a silk mattress topper help, for example, or realistically I'll always sweat with the memory foam underneath? An option (albeit an expensive one) would be to move the mattress to the spare room as we need a new bed there. I could then buy an new bed and mattress for our room, but obviously we're talking a lot of money.

Thanks.

I had the same issue with our new Simba mattress, if yours comes with a fitted mattress protector sheet remove that as it’s quite plasticy, that’s what was making ours hot and sweaty, it’s fine now, try using a natural fibre protector instead if you need one

May not work by try putting socks under cold water and putting them on before you go to bed. Feet help to regulate your body temperature so cold feet = cool body.

I won't have a memory foam mattress for exactly that reason so Idk if it will actually work but worth a shot!

How long have you had it? Call and say it doesn’t work for you at all - there’s usually some kind of guaranteee and return policy if it’s not Comfortable.

Unfortunately this is a known thing about memory foam mattresses. We bought one with Dreams - thankfully with the 30 night return guarantee - and had to swap to the worlds most expensive non memory foam mattress ( had to be the same or more as the original purchase)

If you've not got a guarantee, then spare bedroom might be the best place for it. Sorry.

No solution I know of I’m afraid. You could try a topper but if you are able to return it that’s the choice I would make.

We stay at 2 houses (relatives) on a regular basis that both have memory foam mattresses and I find them both so uncomfortably hot.

We used to have a memory foam mattress and this was a temporary issue. I can't remember how long it lasted, maybe a couple months, but it did stop eventually.

Try a wool mattress topper (not a fleecy one). The wool is contained in a cotton cover. You can get them from Baavet. Wool keeps you cool in Summer. I have a wool Summer duvet as well and it's noticeably cooler than polyester.

We had the same problem. We fixed it with 1) using a pure wool mattress topper
2) swapping the duvet for blankets

Return it if you can, I don't think there are any real solutions to this problem. We have a latex mattress as I really wanted memory foam but couldn't bear how hot it made me and latex doesn't make you overheat.

I'd take it back if I were you. I tried a memory foam topper once and was very sweaty.

It's a relatively big investment and if it doesn't work for you, return it - I just returned an expensive mattress that wasn't comfortable enough. The replacement is lovely.
