Sweat stained toilet seat

Hi All,

I have a 15 year old toilet seat that has a brown stained spread over it. This is sweat.

I tried smearing the seat with toothpaste and leaving it for 30 minutes but no joy.

Similar threads suggest buying a toilet seat which if all else fails I may need to do.

However, does anyone have a suggestion specifically for a sweat-stained toilet seat - as opposed to a urine stained one.

Best wishes,

Adam

Take it off and soak it in diluted bleach.

squeekywheel · 25/06/2019 05:13

What is it made off?

If wood, bin it and buy a plastic one

Myfoolishboatisleaning · 25/06/2019 05:57

Was it really expensive? Or does it hold sentimental value? I replace all the toilet seats at least yearly (more often in my son’s bathroom) and I have low standards.

Oblomov19 · 25/06/2019 06:09

You replace toilet seats? Annually. Goodness. I've never ever replaced. I didn't know it was the 'done' thing.

BillywilliamV · 25/06/2019 06:10

More plastic waste (sigh!)

PenelopeFlintstone · 25/06/2019 06:18

A white plastic one really will be as good as new after soaking for a couple of hours in bleachy water. No need to replace. I used to use wooden ones but got annoyed with the screws rusting in little boy's wee and love my very cheap plastic one now because it's easy to clean.

Myfoolishboatisleaning · 25/06/2019 06:24

Wood actually BillyWilliamV so you can breathe a sigh of relief. Although you may want to sigh about the overuse of bleach by other posters?

No wonder the environment and planet are fucked. People really don't give a shit at what waste they are creating do they?! As long as they are ok.... Yearly toilet seats?? FFS more plastic.

BillywilliamV · 25/06/2019 06:39

That’s almost worse, so expensive! Why exactly do you feel that changing your toilet seats is necessary. I have a microbiology background, I can absolutely assure that it isn’t.

Myfoolishboatisleaning · 25/06/2019 07:08

$6 a pop!

Ha! Although you may want to sigh about the overuse of bleach by other posters?
I actually only do this once a year at a rental between tenants. My own toilet seat never gets dirty enough and I don't actually own bleach for myself.

You're all having an argument about loo seats.

Jesus Adam just buy a new one. I think your old one has earned its retirement.

theneverendinglaundry · 25/06/2019 17:46

Magic Eraser worked really well for my loo seats. Worth a try before you replace.

Cynderella · 27/06/2019 23:08

Just me wondering about sweat stains on a toilet seat then? I mean, how? No. I don't want to know.

Sorry, but another one who would rather not use bleach or keep ditching plastic, so obviously the answer is vinegar.

Vinegar-soaking armpit area of son's T shirts which were horribly stained got rid of all staining. So, I'd say vinegar has to be worth a try.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 29/06/2019 11:49

If you really can't live with this and are not interested in your eco-print, take it off and try oven cleaner. There is a you tube video on that topic.

I have a white plastic toilet seat about 15 years old that is in certain agreas discoloured by age and hard water, it is cleaned regularily and functions as it should. So it stays.

I have a loo seat in the downstairs loo that I cannot remove (cannot fathom where the bolts are and I cba finding them)

I use Astonish paste . Damp cloth , rub, damp cloth to rinse .

My DS is the main user of this loo so you can imagine how manky it gets Envy
